Talking I think its time to paint my calipers

Just saw a 2019 E63S AMG with red calipers and some nice AMG wheels. Damn thing has lug covers and raised caps.

I was strongly thinking about painting mine yellow then MB sent me an email and it had the new AMG Coop with it's standard yellow calipers. I like it but now I'm going to go my original plan with white to match the car.

that is my one gripe about my C450 brake calipers.... they look crappy in their factory form, especially in the standard alloy color. i feel like with brakes THAT large, it should be mandatory they come in nice colors to make them really pop inside that wheel..... sadly, in my personal opinion, its too much of a pain in the **** to get everything off and get them powder coated. i wouldn't want to buy an entire new system just to change the color.

I'm good with the OE silver on the front sport calipers, but was next to an E with those wheels over the weekend & really like them.

what did you use to repaint it with? did you take the calipers off the car or just tape all around?
that surely looks way more awesome.

This kit gets good reviews. I am going to paint mine with the wheels on. My 5 spoke AMG wheels have lots of spacing.

you are going to do that with the wheel on??! i duno man, i would be afraid to accidently touch the rim or something. i can see this turning out well if you took the caliper off so you can apply to every nook and cranny on the backside too. cool idea, but it seems like quite a bit of work to hand paint everything. i'd be afraid of getting paint on the rotor or something else unwanted.

That's why you first cover the wheel and rotor with newspaper and painter's tape.

what about paint dripping into where the pads are? lol
if you are gonna slop paint all over the thing and get good coverage, i would imagine it might get into some areas.
sorry i am playing the devils advocate on this one... not trying to bust your *****.

Paint

If paint was strong enough to stop the rotors from grinding away they would've come up with a formula by now to do that. A couple of stop signs and the errant drops of paint will be burned off the pads and rotors.

* I just read on different post that G2 is nearly impossible to get off once it hardens...take your time painting and remove drips before it hardens.

ahhh good confirmation - that is exactly what would scare me about the procedure. its one thing to do a cost effective color change. but its another to ruin rotors and pads in the process. could get costly! especially for those with big brake kits.

Is it just me or did the forum code get an upgrade? The "Thanks" button turned into a "Likes" button and you can actually use it on mobile view now.
