Lock 2018 C300 with engine running?

This is driving me crazy (and pardon me, pls, if this is the wrong forum for asking). I have 2018 C300. I need to lock the car with the engine and A/C running (for my dog) while I pick up something at store, etc. Too hot to leave windows down and dog much loved. So even if I could leave windows down, I wouldn't.

In my 2014 C250, this was simple. Get out of running car and lock with metal "valet" key in the key fob. Unlock similarly upon return.

This does not work with the 2018 model, apparently.

Does anyone know how to make this work? With the odd (underside of handle) placement of the valet key hole, I can't turn the metal key at all after inserting it.

Like I said: driving me crazy and VERY inconvenient.

Thanks,

P

I had this issue also on our '16 C300. What you have to do is take off the short trim piece of the door handle where there is the odd valet key hole (that really isn't a key hole.) It pops off fairly easily, and then you will see where the valet key will fit and work fine. It's a pain in the ***, but it is the only way I have found to do this.

Does the "trim piece" pop back on as easily as it pops off? I have noticed in my attempts to use the key that the trim piece slips ajar, but stays ajar in place and on the car. Did not occur to me to try and pull it all the way off, if that is what you're suggesting.

Goes back on easier than it comes off.

Will give it a try and send the bill if I have to pay $1500 to have it reattached. Thanks & cheers--

Mercedes me app. You can lock while the engine is running. Downside is you can only unlock with the app again, atleast wireless button unlock from the key didn't work

Thanks. Figured this out after a bit and it sometimes works well. Other times, not so much. Have you tried the things suggested above of pulling off the chrome/plastic back cover of the. Door handle? Seems nuts. To me but i’m Thinking about trying because it seem to come halfway off of its own accord when you yank the handle all the way out and up.
