What is the latest map update for 2016 C300 with Command system?
I've been searching online and I found 8.1 for sale on eBay, that's the latest I see. Anyone know if there is a later version? I'm using v5 and it's been terrible since day 1. Surely the latest version will be a little better.

Command = MB stock navigation with HDD. Audio 20 = Garmin navigation with SD card. If your car has command navigation, dealership can upgrade it. If it’s garmin(audio 20), buy the cheapest map in new SD card.
You don’t need the latest version as you can upgrade online to the latest version within 60 days from the first activation date of the map.

I received the card in the link above today, it works. It's a totally different design/layout than the 2015 card I had. Hopefully I'll notice some improved maps in my future travels. I'm going to check on the Garmin site to see if there are any updates.

Does anyone know the actual "latest" version? I was at dealer today with my 2016 C450 with the upgraded command (at purchase) and it hasn't been to an official dealer in more than 2 years (don't drive it much) they said there was no new update - which I found REALLY surprising.

No... it is the "same" across that same version of COMAND or that same version of Audio 20... so it depends what version is in your MB.
New map versions - especially for COMAND - are "as available and released" with no set schedule from the original map provider so no set schedule from MB .. but "about" 18 months.
Some COMAND requires MB dealer Star system download update ... a big pain since it triggers a 2 1/2 hr download thru Star - other COMAND versions are updated by dealer USB where you purchase the single-use USB and "unlock code" + 1hr shop time is done at dealer - or no labor if you install USB and inlock
Now - for Audio 20 Garmin there are "bootleg" but legitimate working SD cards on eBay - and "good" eBay guys if you message them your VIN# will run that VIN to confirm what Garmin version is the most updated for your system. Yes- I have used them a LOT since the "bootleg-legitmately-working" Nav cards are so dang cheap.
On COMAND - if your version of COMAND can be updated with USB stick - there is a "bootleg" but reportedly legitimately working source on the web out of Thailand - again you email them your VIN# and start from there - they can email you the download to put on USB and give you the unlock code. I have NOT used those guys myself.
The "cost" here is the original map-data guys for COMAND and Garmin were/are charge a arm-and-leg for.
MB/BMW/Audi each threw in about $50M each to buy a Euro Map/Data company to bring down the pricing - so, going forward into new MBUX system - yes - all MBUX across all models will be the same, with 3Yrs Over-The-Air updates free - and the Euro Map/Data company has been pushing out updates so far like every 90 days or so..
Keep the beat !
