After 38K MILES and the car now need a NEW ENGINE replacement?? W205

It was couple weeks ago when I’ve had my 2015 C300 4Matic w205 AC blowing hot air for no reason! In the morning it was still running real smooth, no faults, just like in its usual shape! Until right after when I went to somewhere and had to park the car outside during the 104F temp, it happened. I came back and driving, thr AC was blowing hot air even though I’ve had autoing it to the lowest temp. The engine fan was running abnormal too like my engine was overheating when its actually not, it was really loud!

Called the Mercedes Benz dealer to get it fixed and they told me there was also a recall on this vehicle which was to update the powertrain control unit software. Brought the car to the dealer to get it checked, they did performed a complete MPI inspection, and they didn’t find anything from the engine! Then they found fault with B107A15 code saying that the refrigerant pressure sensor got malfunctioned! It took them 3 days for them to order the part, and they managed to fix every problems just by changing its refrigerant pressure sensor! The service advisor saying that the battery was inspected and had a failed status due to its age, since we never know that the battery could die anytime soon, so Imma get that changed too!

Spent almost a gran for fixing it & new battery! Couldn’t be happier, the car was running smooth as it was! Had the car back on the 37,978 Miles on the 3rd October 2019!

Driving the car daily to work for 5 days after it came back from the dealership! Then I remembered that night, when i was on my way back from work, I did accelerate to 55 miles on the 45 speed limit with a cruise control, then suddenly i felt there was something abnormal from this car, it started to shake pretty violently, it was scary that night! Then the CEL light came out, it was blinking! I stopped the car somewhere to get it checked, turn off the engine and turn it on again but problem was still there! Smell burning smoke from the exhaust, and thought the car was about to catch fire, it was one of the scariest things happening in my life tbh!

Managed to arrive home safely, then slept and woke up early just to call the dealer to check its engine light code and get it reset! Brought the car to the dealer again and hoping that there was nothing serious happening to the car!

Waited at the lounge for couple hours and suddenly service advisor came to me with a pale face with his hand waiving at me to follow him.. He told me there was a misfire on the cylinder #1.. Cylinder #1 compression low and what made that burning smell was oil in the exhaust! He keeps telling me that he knows it sucks, but replacing the new engine, will only be the proper fix! He quoted me $11,153.93 and asked me to go cause I didn’t have any warranty on that car anymore!

I didn’t know how in hell a car with only having 38k miles on it, died just like that! Everything that came to my mind is just not logical! Its just like a time bomb and exploded just like that! What I only hope is just my car doesn’t go to the MB museum for dying so young! So guys! Please care to give me some wisdom regarding my story? This is my first MB story, what about yours? Thanks

Wow that is really unfortunate. I really wonder why your cylinder #1 was misfiring. I'm with my first Mercedes with no major problems (fingers crossed) at 51k miles but reading stories like this make me feel like I'm driving a ticking time bomb.

Ask to speak with the service manager and see if the dealership will support a "customer goodwill" repair request to corporate. If you bought this car new is had 4yr 50000 powertrain warranty from date of sale. So if your warranty is expired it is only recently expired. If the dealership supports you, the chance of MB corporate covering repairs will be higher. They may also offer to split some of the cost.

i’d wondered about that, and I was also wondering why they couldn’t able to “FIX” it instead of “REPLACING” it... I guess driving a Toyota would be so much better for the peace of mind lol.....

“stopped the car somewhere to get it checked, turn off the engine and turn it on again but problem was still there! Smell burning smoke from the exhaust, and thought the car was about to catch fire,”

First, I’m sorry to hear this happened to you. It really sucks that an engine gives out this early.

Having said that, it’s also probably not a good idea to continue driving a car “home” and “to the dealership” after the check engine light starts blinking and you smell smoke from the engine.

Calling for a tow truck would be advised under these circumstances. This could be problematic in your attempt to get the repair or replacement covered by the manufacturer whether under warranty or not.

Hope you get some relief from MB USA.

I suggest that you get a price for having a used engine with a warranty installed by an independent shop. There are several companies that sell salvage engines from newer salvage, ie totaled, cars.

The C300 are POS - I hate mine and am glad I can return it when the lease ends well before I hit 30k miles.

Hi, why cant they fix it. They want to change the whole engine because of one cylinder failure. I find it strange. The easiest thing to do is changing not fixing regardless of the price.
I recommend you see a Mercedes mechanic maybe he will be able to fix this misfire issue. Bottom line is that the car died so young MB should fix it for you wether you have a warranty or not. Ethics...

Mine did exatly the same after 26,000kms. Thankfully under warranty. Took them nearly 2 months to sort out. Apparently the misfire on cylindar one was due to the piston melting completely!. I traded the car as soon as it had a new enfine and bought a C43 coupe. Hopefully the engine lasts longer!
