Tailgate easy access retrofit

Hey guys I just thought about this the other day, and it seemed like such a good idea and I don't know why we haven't thought of this before. If you don't have the electric tailgate, so you have the spring loaded one like me, you can fully open it from the key or the switch on the driver door, but you can also get it to open by waving your leg below the rear bumper just like the electric tailgate if you add a kick sensor, these sensors are dirt cheap and I think the functionnality is worth it. The electric tailgate option on the W205 never seemed appealing to me since it's quite a bit of money and the only benefit you get is having the tailgate close with a button when your hands are already free.

Hmm good idea. Wonder if there are already some kits for the W205 out there for this...

A few of us have done this with generic Amazon/online ordered kits. See this old post:

It's not vehicle specific since it just gets wired into the tailgate handle, so any kick sensor will do

Oh sweet, I'll give it a look, tho since you're aware of it, I have a queston, will it work without unlocking the car, or does it need the car tobe unlocked?

It will simulate hitting the trunk release button above the license plate, so will behave in the same way.

If the key fob is with you, or in proximity, the kick sensor will work even if the car is locked. If no fob is nearby then it will not operate.

I dont think it is worth messing around with wires also removing things to install this sensor. I mean assuming your hands are not free you can always free your hands and open that boot.

I dunno man, it is super convenient to just give a quick kick under the bumper when you have your arms full of heavy groceries or other items.

I've used it quite a few times since I installed it.

I was looking at the installation procedure. I would rather press a button on my remote if i can manage it otherwise i will put those grocery bags on the floor and open it. A friend of mine started installing the illuminated star himself. Bought the item from china. He nearly put the car on fire 😂
