C300

A friend of mine looking to get 2016 or 2017 C300 and wonder how are their reliability ? For some reason the engine is build in South Africa and the entire car was ensemble in the USA ?
He is looking at 4Matic since comes with more equipment but with 60K miles. How reliable are they ? are they expensive to repair ?

Thank you for any input.

W205, X253, C190, W213,
I recommend you get the Consumer Reports car guide for factual information. It will have surveys for each year and a breakdown into components as well. I think you have to join to get the actual data. I might have one from last year. If I can find it I'll post the data for you.

I can't give you stats on reliability for that year model but it's well-established that Mercedes are more expensive to repair than the average.

I have seen lot of threads about people complaining for piston failure on these cars. Below is an example

that guy put a huge turbo on his with no supporting fuel mods. of course it blew up.

In general they're quite reliable. Parts are not expensive.

Andy74 was not wrong. OP was running stock and had a piston failure. Another person posted on the thread with a heavily modded motor.

I think that 2016 is fine. Avoid 2015 due to wrist pin issue. Am I correct about 2016?

Hey Dennish,

I agree with your statement. The early production models of the w205 chassis particularly the 2015 models were plagued with the dreaded wrist pin issue. Owners of the 2016 models and up should be good to go me included.

I don't think they're that pricey to fix tbh. Someone crashed into mine and a new LED rear light was only £150 or so, cheaper than a lot of cars!
