Intermittent stop start
My stop start quit working. Since the car had been sitting, I charged the battery. No luck. Later it began working intermittently. I don’t like the stop start, but wondering if I might have a bigger pending problem. Any thoughts?

It could also be the aux "battery," which is not really a battery but a capacitor bank that has a high failure rate. Or it could be a lot of other things. Even hot weather, where the car engine needs to keep running for the air conditioner compressor to be able to maintain your set point.

I've noticed that if you let the car sit for sometime the auto start/stop becomes inoperable. I've had my 2015 C300 sit for a couple of days at a time before starting it back up, and it won't have start/stop working right on the cold start. It needs to be driven daily for it to work right on startup. Don't worry though as I doubt there's anything wrong with your car actually.

Does it work after a long journey,say 70 miles or so? Sounds like mine and after the investigation I undertook I think that the main battery needs replacing but I am reluctant to do so because the car starts fine.

If the car has been sat around doing nothing, its perfectly normal for the stop/start to stop working as the battery will naturally deplete. My car is only getting used once a week or so at the moment and its the same. I did 50 miles in it the other day and its now working fine.
Agree with the comments though - best to turn it off (first thing I do when the car is started).

the whole thing works of a 2 prong plug on the negative cable of the battery under the hood
to disable the stop-start system, just unplug that thing. It won't throw any codes or cause any problems
