I would love to try out a set, both of my front ones broke and I don't want to pull my headliner out. I sent you a private message if you have an extra set for sale.

The PLA seems to be holding up very well, no issues so far in the summer heat.

replacement part

David - Brilliant - Why can't Mercedes come up with something similar. I have the roof apart and even purchased a roof from a junkyard.
Cannot figure out how to install the replacement slide grommet.

I would like to purchase four (4) if possible.

Thank-You
Ken

After researching this problem, I realized that this is a pretty widespread issue with this OEM sunroof design and many people have reported a similar issue. This ultimately causes road noise and binding during opening/closing.
The published repair involves removing the entire headliner in the vehicle to gain access to the end of the guiderails in order to slide in the replacement clips (a lot of work).

I decided to design a repair-in-place clip to solve this issue. I printed them on my 3D printer out of PLA and installed on my car and it has been in service for about 2 months now without any issue. They are working amazingly well!
The clips will install on the guiderail, then the sunroof yoke will slip down into the grooves, then the retainer inserts will get a dab of superglue and be pressed into place to lock it all in place. Allow the glue to cure for 4 hours before using sunroof.
I was a bit leery that super glue would have enough "guts" to hold up....but it turns out the super glue is actually stronger than the PLA plastic.

Attached are a few pics showing the design.

I'm looking for anyone else who has the broken clip issue and would like to try out my clips? I want some additional feedback on how well they'll hold up with use.
Anyone?

are these available for purchase?

I purchased a set of these from @flyboyusa three months ago and he mailed them out promptly. I finally installed them a couple of days ago and they work like a charm so far. I replaced the passenger side first, and screwed up when two of the inserts popped off back into the track out of sight. So I had to make two more of those out of an aftermarket set I got off of eBay. I cut a little block of wood 3/8" wide to put in the track to hold the guides in place as I pushed the roof bracket down. It was easier to put the inserts about halfway into the slot and squirt a little superglue on them before I pushed them into place with a long screwdriver. I am amazed at how strong CA glue is. These have worked great so far, I wouldn't mind getting a spare set just in case. My only suggestion would be to design these a little beefier than MB did.

The first group on the left is the original guides that broke. The second set in the middle is an aftermarket set made in Turkey, they look less strong. The set on the right is flyboyusa's design.

The piece of wood I cut to keep everything in place. The inserts are halfway in place and ready for little bit of glue before I pushed them down where they go. The yellow dust everywhere is from the 4000 count pollen dust in Georgia.

Great to hear! It’s nice having a working sunroof for this coming up summer

I may end up in the market for these as well. Checking to see if replacement will be covered by my extended warranty. Sunroof just broke this morning. Not too impressed with Mercedes' choice to use plastic here.
