Help!! Sunroof motor caught on fire.

I have a 2017 C300 with a pano roof. I bought it CPO from a Mercedes dealer in May 2020 with 16000. In Jan 2021 my pano roof got stuck open. I took it to the dealer and they kept it for two weeks and fixed it. I had to take it back a second time because they left my headliner sagging in the back near the window. I then took it back for a third time because my sun shade got stuck open and the sunroof would not open. Today, I took my car to be washed and the sunshade popped open on its own and the sunroof motor started smoking. I drove straight to the dealer (it was 2 min away) and a tech ran out and quickly pulled the battery terminal. He pulled the sunroof control panel down and found water inside. The service department is closed until Monday. The reason I am posting is because I want to know if anyone knows how I should proceed with this problem. Who should I call? If anyone can help that would be amazing. I love the car and just want to be able to enjoy it. Thank guys!!!

Let them fix it. Then contact MBUSA and complain about the sunroof problem. I assume you are not paying. This is a problem with the dealer not MB. I’d try to find another dealer.

They should have fixed it right the first time. Let them deal with it and get this issue resolved once for all. If I were you I wouldn't deal with this dealer in the future.

I agree 100% there. I was shocked yesterday that this happened in the first place. My father has a 2012 E350 that has 115,000 miles and has never had an issue. I will definitely no longer use this dealer.

Right unfortunately since it is 4 years old no lemon law that applies. Car is at the dealer and haven’t heard anything. Hoping I can have my car back soon but I’m not getting my hopes up.

It is pathetic that we continue to hear horror stories about the pano roof. I understand this is a maintenance problem but he would have never needed the repair if the roof didn't get stuck open. When I purchased my MB the pano roof was a must have, now i never open it and never will for fear that it won't close. Terrible job by MB. All repairs of the pano roof should be covered, at least once, even out of warranty. It is obviously a recall type issue at this point.

I agree 100%. MB should not put us through all this. The dealer never called me yesterday so I called the GM of the dealer and left a message. There was no response so went over there when I got off work. They were rude and claimed that all the issues I am having with my pano roof are unrelated. They refuse to send the car to another dealer. They will not give me a loaner since I am under 25, so I am bumming rides off of coworkers to get to work. I called MBUSA and they said an "Executive Customer Service Manager" will be reaching out to me within 24 hours. Hopefully they will get back to me asap and resolve this issue so I can enjoy my car again!!

Post Recall on Pano Roof Panel

Just wanted to update. Car is finished, I will pick it up tomorrow. Dealer is still rude but at least I am going to be mobile again. Dealer said that the black panel in front of the pano roof was loose and letting water leak into the sunroof controls. I just happened to look up W205 recalls when I came across the latest one "Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2017-2020 C300 Coupe, C43 Coupe AMG, C43 AMG, 2015-2020 C300, GLA250, 2016-2018 C350e, CLA45 Coupe AMG, 2015 C400, S65 AMG, 2015-2019 C63 AMG, 2016 C450, 2015-2016 GLA45 AMG, S600, 2016-2020 GLC300, 2017-2019 GLC43 AMG, GLE43 Coupe AMG, 2014-2019 CLA250 Coupe, 2014-2015 CLA45 AMG, 2018 GLC63 AMG, 2014-2017 S550, 2018-2020 S450, 2016-2019 GLE63 Coupe AMG, 2016 GLE450 Coupe, 2014-2020 S63 AMG, 2018-2019 S560, and 2019 GLC350e vehicles equipped with a panoramic sunroof. The front roof panel located between the windshield and the panoramic sunroof may not have been bonded correctly to the vehicle during a prior repair." I had this panel replaced early on in my ownership of the vehicle under warranty since it was faded. I hope this helps out anyone who is in a similar situation.

The dealer sent me an invoice for $240 for parts. This dealer is awful.

I would’ve left the car at the dealership or would’ve been pretty vocal about all of it so that others heard. Watch how quickly they change up when your causing a scene. They have no right to charge you for that.

Damn I forgot to leave out the first page. Thanks for catching that. I went to the dealer this afternoon and they agreed to cover all the costs as an extra "courtesy". I also emailed the GM and he said that it was a mistake to charge me. Drove the car around and everything seems fine. Opened and closed the pano roof and it works beautifully. Hopefully my pano roof issues are over. Thanks everyone for the help/advice. Next MB I buy will not have a pano roof. I have learned my lesson.
