153,000 mile rear brake pads look like this

I just replaced my rear brakes, they didn't wear down to the wear sensor but were not far from it. I have never had brakes that have lasted that long. I suspect the fronts still have another 50k miles left. I've also never had a car that the rear brakes wear out before the fronts. I put MB OEM pads back on, hopefully I can get another 150K miles before replacing the rear pads again.

Amazing. My rear parking break side was down to 4mm at 50k miles.

Did you replace the rotors ?

Pretty impressive. I just replaced my rears at 70k miles on the W166 GLE350 4MATIC.

I got 120k miles on the factory pads and rotors on a late model VW Touareg.

What is your driving style? High mileage runs? Do you travel (salesman, consultant) for a living?

I travel about 1500 miles a month lately due to Covid, I'll soon be back to about 3000-4000 a month which is what I was doing prior to Covid. I'm driving probably 85% highway miles. I did not replace my rotors, I usually take rotors off and sand them down with a coarse grit sandpaper, using a circular sander to sand off the glaze. I did not sand them this time, I thought since I was replacing with the same pads I'd try it and see how it goes. The brakes seem to be doing fine.

I haven't flushed the brake fluid yet, I figure I will do that one day down the road when I have more time. I have a Motive power bleeder with the MB brake fluid adapter cap, hopefully it'll go well.

That's impressive. Sounds like you know cars too I too have been flummoxed by the fact that my 2012 AMG, purchased new, currently sitting at 65K miles has original pads and brakes too. I have new rotors and pads, sensors on stand by but am waiting for the light. I do have grooves in the rotors and am not sure if they can be sanded or not. One thing is for sure....they last

Not ordinary pads due to their ceramic content etc.

The rotors looked a little glazed over but they were not grooved, I hadn't reached the metal to metal stage, but I was awfully close. The car brakes work as good now as they did when I first got it.

If that's true then the Ferodo pads are about 1/3 the cost! For 150,000 plus miles I'll spend more to make sure I get the exact same pads. Maybe when the car hits 300k I'll try the Ferodos.

The Ferodo won't disappoint as much R&D .

And now for the ceramic content...

Brake fluid should have been the first step - imagine all the fluid you had in the caliper piston is now back in the reservoir (after you pushed the piston back in for the new pads)
Brake fluid is every 2nd year.

I’ll be replacing all the brake fluid by pressure feeding it through the system, that’s the plan for next week.

The pad quality has gone down dramatically. My 2018 C300 has had the pads replaced three times (rotors once) and the car just rolled over 20,000 miles. My prior 2014 C250 never had to replace the pads the entire time I owned it.
