176,000 miles and it's time to go...

I travel a lot for work and have had a good run with this car and have loved every minute of driving it but I couldn't shake the feeling that one day I would be on the road and something catastrophic like a engine, transmission or something else would occur and the cost to repair these big items would encroach on or exceed the value of this high mileage car. I have been looking for something that doesn't use premium gas and is more versatile. I was at a local dealer and found a new mid-size AWD SUV (non Mercedes) that gets 27 mpg on regular gas - essentially the same cost per mile as my premium drinking C300. We ran the numbers and I decided to trade. They gave me about $2500 less in trade then I thought I could get if I sold the car on my own but for simplicity sake it was worth it. Plus I wouldn't have to explain all the car's ailments : hard downshift from 5th to 4th when cold (has to be a failure waiting to happen), peeling chrome trim, bubbling headliner in the back upper sides of the rear window, rear tires that wear out every 20,000 miles....

BUT, I was still on my original factory front brake pads!

I am proud of being one of the highest, if not the highest mileage 2016 C300 out there but now I get to reset the clock on a new vehicle. I may be back in a Mercedes one day when I don't have to wear it out for work. I'll be listing some items for sale shortly - full set of factory rims, front brake pads (had but never needed), cabin charcoal air filter, tow hitch, roof racks, and a few other items I'm sure I have forgotten.

I've enjoyed being on this forum and appreciate all the help. I am sure I will check in from time to time...

Congratulations! 176k miles is a great accomplishment, and on the factory front brake pads - wow!

What vehicle did you move into? Enjoy many miles of motoring.

I got a 2022 Toyota Highlander, almost $2k below MSRP, almost $5k below sticker with the add on's. It was too good of a deal to pass up, especially in todays car shortage situation. I wanted AWD, good fuel economy and the ability to tow a popup, this one fits the bill with basically the same fuel economy and a lower cost of ownership. I'm happy. Driving through the curves aren't as fun anymore, but I have plenty of other options for the twisties...

Congratulations on your new buy. Hopefully one day you will come back to Mercedes. Front pads never been changed + 176 K miles without major issues. Well done Mercedes.

The rears made it to around 154,000 miles if I remember correctly. My Dad was telling me to go to one of the local parts stores and buy a cheaper set and I said "no way, that many miles out of a factory set, I'm buying factory again." I also never changed the rotors.

Wow, that is quite a feat, for sure. Definitely much more driving than stopping.

I wouldn't sweat getting less for the trade-in at all. I definitely wouldn't want to be the one to try to sell a C-Class with that many miles on it myself, lol.

Congratulations on the new ride and enjoy!
