2018 Mercedes C300 Engine Failure after Check engine light and "Software Update" Fix
I took the car to my mechanic for and they indicated that Code P052E71 for Crankcase ventilation Valve is covered under extended warranty. They mechanic performed Service B (oil change) while the car was in the shop.
Took car to dealership the following week and they performed a “software update” for N3/10 Engine Control Unit. They said that a replacement of the intake line assembly is NOT required. No parts were replaced and only a software update was completed. The car drove normal and there was no check engine light displayed.
After two weeks of driving the engine has a catastrophic failure. Something from the upper portion of the engine (a piston, a connecting rod, or another such part) failed in a way that caused percussive damage to the oil pump, which then punched out the bottom of the engine.
I took the car to the dealer and they said that the failure was not related to the warranty work they performed.
A friend suggested that the engine failure within 2 weeks of this check engine light warning and software update to the N3/10 Engine Control Unit is not a coincidence.
Does anyone think this may be related?

I also have a 2018 , C300 (Facelift) and it suffered from a similar issue when the previous owner had it. Had to replace the whole engine.
From what he told me it also started with a check engine light, he brought it straight to dealer the day it appeared, they did some ‘updates’ and changed a solenoid.Though in his case only a couple of days later on the highway engine suffered some major issue, and failed to the point that it had to be replaced. He came to dealer and they told him it happened due to something else and they are unresponsible. The car had only around 55k km at the time …
