My W206 C300 has been smelling a bit "extra crispy" when arriving home and parked in my closed garage lately. I have been driving normally, so no racing or the like.
Today I wanted to investigate, and saw that the plastic engine cover has been sitting on the metal heat-shields separating the first catalyst converter from the engine.
The engine cover has been properly mounted always.
The heat-shielding on the engine cover seems to be melting, and since there is some sound-insulation material sitting between this heat-shielding and the plastic cover, this seems to be melting also.
There are no signs of melted plastic on the top of the engine cover (yet).
Can someone else with a C300 please check their engine cover if this is also occurring with their vehicle?
I fear this is a fire-hazard and will notify Mercedes.
Burn marks on the engine cover Burn marks on the heat-shield in the engine bay

Sorry I am not able to help you OP, never heard of this issue on the W206, did your dealership have any insight the cause of this? I don't think your engine runs hot at all for example. Are the ambient temperatures in your area always hot, or what temperature does your engine and/or coolant sit at when you are just cruising or idling?
I would suggest that you take your car back to your local MB dealership ASAP! I've never heard of such an issue. It certainly needs to be investigated ASAP.
I have notified the Mercedes dealership.
I am based in Denmark, so certainly not an overly hot country.
Wondering if this could be even worse in hotter countries.
I drive my w206 in Los Angeles and had it during summer where outside was 110°F+. I inspected my heat shield and engine cover which don't show any signs of damage like you described. Hopefully MB will follow up quickly!

Good advice, really hope this is not a fire hazard. ASAP is good advice.
Making such a wide statement based on only 1 report is pretty weak.
Yes, don't mind the hundreds of thousands of recalls MB has issued this year. Your argument is weak. I just today got two recall letters for my cars in the mail, how about that?

LOL the handwritten note
W206 is the first of its generation and unfortunately many owners don't realize they're beta testers!
Morphing 2 recall notices into hundreds of thousands of recalls is pretty pathetic.
No, what's pathetic is driving a 30-40 year old entry level Mercedes and acting like you know about the current state of affairs from the tarnished star.
Do tell me though, oh great one with knowledge of all things , how many cars has MB recalled in the US this year so far?

Spoken by a non-engineer with a personal grudge against MB. Pathetic! You only wish you owned a car designed by Automotive Hall of Fame designer Bruno Sacco. The success of the W201 made the C class line possible. There would be no C class line without the W201.BTW, MB marketed the W201 as a baby S class and based on my personal experience it absolutely is a baby S class so spare me your entry level rubbish. The W201 is also an icon in its own right. I was at my local MB dealership yesterday looking in the Accessories department. BTW, your pathetic rants do nothing to help the OP. Don't post if you can't offer real help to the OP. That's what this forum is supposed to be for.

Your disrespect for engineering expertise you don't have is pathetic. The purpose of this forum is to help the original poster solve their issue. Your personal attacks don't do that. Your behavior is shameful.

Your sanctimonious attitude is embarrassing man. Do you even know what/who you're talking to and what they do for a living? No you don't because those involved here
don't take you seriously but more of a fly buzzing around trying to exert what you think is knowledge.
You've been off-putting since you joined this forum and still you're obnoxious lol.
You can try and shame anyone all you want to after all that is the climate for 2023 right? Grow up and also grow a pair

Let me know when you and the rest of "the engineers" board your spacecraft and head for the outer worlds, I'll meet you at the launch site for a proper sendoff!
By the way, I make my living (a pretty good one!) by fixing mistakes made by engineers!

Non-engineer know it all who has a personal grudge against MB. Time for you to take your temper tantrum elsewhere.

Your own words show your pathetic lack of knowledge. Attacking expertise you don't have is the in thing. I have every right to call you both out for it. The purpose of this forum is to help people with the issue they're writing about. Your nasty attacks don't do that. If you can't post a helpful suggestion for the OP then don't post at all because you're not helping.
Poor @HumbleBy came to the forums for advice and got a dick measuring contest instead
It isn't about the length of one's member......this 190 lad has been dismissive and off putting since the day he joined the forum.....that's pretty much it.
I understand your position though and maybe it does seem like a contest from another outside perspective....but there is a history and behavior pattern that
makes it seem like everyone BUT the lad here is just plain lame.

You started the mess with your second post calling out another member as if you're the stay on topic police, and it snowballed from there. You're on your own as you always have been.
Once a mod sees this thread all history of back and forth and blah blah blah will be edited anyway and will have never existed but we'll still know who you are and how you behave.
Please stop all of you.
Someone should remove this flame war and leave just the posts of the main topic.
Anyone, at anytime can hit the report button and it'll all be removed I do realize lots of folks don't want to 'rat' other members out and hope maturity and diplomacy
would resume but it usually doesn't work out that way.
