After having the W206 for nearly 2 years Mercedes engineers have (fingers-crossed-touch-wood) finally cracked the code on wireless charging for iPhones with magsafe. This morning the update was delivered OTA by Santa and a 45 minutes drive looks promising. All I want for Christmas is the car that I set out to buy 2 years ago…
I got mine through last week in the uk. Gave up with the wireless charger and put in a quad lock charger. Curiosity did get to me and the wireless charger does seem to respond better since update
I've had a total of 2 or 3 updates to the wireless charger.
All of them did not solve the charging issue I was having with my iPhone 13 Pro which did not have a MagSafe cover on it.
I then switched to an iPhone 15 Pro with a non-Apple MagSafe cover, and now the wireless charger works perfectly.
Charges every single time and actually adds juice to the battery, not just heating it up.
This morning, I got an unexpected alert that an OTA update had been downloaded and installed to my EQE SUV here in Sweden. The title of it is "Software update for wireless charging system". Detailed description is: "The update includes improvements to the wireless charging function for the Apple iPhone 14 and subsequent generations with MagSafe."
I started the car and checked my MBUX version and that had not changed. Still E330. So I guess it really was a minor and sharply focused update. I started the car and all seemed normal, but I haven't driven anywhere yet. My iPhone 10 charged just fine before the update. My other half's iPhone 14 charged too, but we noted we had to take the phone out of its rather thick leather case to get the charging to work. This did not surprise me in the least, however. Maybe we won't have to remove the case going forward?? We will test this soon.
I also installed the wireless charger update in California this week (2023 w206). It showed up as a notification in the center screen. Strangely enough, the installation failed twice. It said the update could not be installed due to operating conditions. It successfully updated upon the third attempt. I haven't noticed a difference in the charging speed on my 14 Pro Max - it doesn't reach the warmth or speed of the MagSafe charger. Wonder if it's actually doing anything...
