An error message popped up at about 1K miles stating "Service Due. Don't change gears." The gearbox became unresponsive immediately afterwards. Restarting the car managed to flush out the problem but I took the car in just to be on the safe side. The dealership said some electronic module failed and replaced the parts (module, hose and two screws) under warranty.

Fast cars in general....
1300mi. and zero issue here (knock on wood). Was planning on replacing it with M5 later this year but I'm not sure it's going to happen. We'll see.

wish the car would tell you when it was low on oil more accurately.. it came up once for like a second then went away. forgot about it drove another 200 miles. after the car started to sound like a train i remembered that the oil needed to be topped off. hope nothing bad happened to the engine.

I'm partial to more 'engaging' cars.
From my past experience, BMW always topped this category over MB.

of engaging is what your after and your thinking about the m5 I'd go for the e60 m5, not the new f10. the f10 sounds dull and quiet (confirmed by several reviews) the e60 m5 sounded like a Lamborghini. new f10 sound is so weak BMW had to ad the active (fake) sound to the interior via the stereo speakers.

its crazy fast but no faster than the cls63.

the one area where I'd give the new m5 the edge is in the interior, to me it outclasses all the mercedes amg's. practically the entire interior is wrapped in leather.

How does piping artificial engine noise through the stereo qualify as "engaging"?

Loved the V10 M6 and IMO, it's one of the best cars I've owned in the past but sadly it's old tech compared to F10. I don't care how much aural pleasure V10 brings but SMG and old tech will never trump the new technologies and DCT found in F10.

Artificial sound or not, as long as it performs, that's all it matters to me.

I think I said the same thing at about that distance. Go by a case of Mobil 1 and get used to it....

I would talk numbers but I am a lazy American who doesn't feel like dealing with the metric system conversions...

Oh wow , 5.5 liters is what NASCAR engines are. Learn something new everyday! Oh , or are they 340 cubic inches.

358ci

Wiki:

The cars are powered by carbureted V8 engines, with cast iron blocks, and a pushrod valvetrain actuating two-valves per cylinder, and limited to 358 cubic inches (about 5.8 liters) displacement. However, modern technology has allowed power outputs near 850 horsepower (630*kW) in unrestricted form while retaining the conventional basic engine design. In fact, before NASCAR instituted the gear rule, Cup engines were capable of operating in excess of 10,000 rpm.[19] A Sprint Cup Engine with the maximum bore of 4.185*inches (106.3 millimeters), and stroke of 3.25*inches (82.55 millimeters) at 9,000 rpm has a mean piston speed of 24.75*m/s (roughly that of a Formula One engine). NASCAR currently plans to change from carburetion to fuel injection for the 2012 season.[20]
