Teaser... HRE P40SC's- Conical and Light!!

Coming soon to a CLS near me....

They are not concave (that would denote a bowl shape) LOL
They are conical (denotes more of a cone angle)

Im utterly impressed with HRE: their wheels, their quality, their function, their form, their facility, and the leaders that run the facility.

Pics on the car will be forthcoming but I wanted to share the unmounted look and their weights.

Pretty amazing weights for a 20 inch wheel

Excuse the blurry pics (the point is the weight)

20x9

20x11

2012 CLS 63 AMG
Vic, those are absolutely the best looking wheels I've seen yet. I'd love a set of them.
Any idea what my AMG take offs would sell for?

I dont know, takeoffs are generally very cheap so they would sell for cheap.

What do you have exactly?

Only MBs - the best or nothing
Not bashing HREs, but what makes these twice (at least) as expensive as BBS CH-Rs? They look almost identical to each other. Yes, CH-Rs do weight extra 6lbs or so per corner (means almost nothing on the streets, unless car is tracked as well), but quality is first class.

BBS CH-R's are flow formed cast wheels.
Not as light weight or strong as HRE wheels which are forged.

Besides 11 sets of HRE- going on 12 soon...

I have had a set of CH's... the only other set(s) of wheels I have had in 10 years is BBS. 3 Sets of LM's, 1 CH, and I set of OZ's...

BBS CH in 20 inch set up are tanks weightwise (more than 6lbs over this exact setup). Id say if, and I say if, you had a 20x9 and 20x11 CH set up would be around 30lbs each. Thats about 8 lbs more on each corner of unsprung weight or 32 lbs total. Using a conservative unsprung to sprung weight translation, thats like taking 128 lbs out of your car (4x's ratio). I have driven my cars on many borrowed wheels- wheels only weighing 5-7 lbs more (only ) and you can tell the difference easily from a dig- easily. In fact I was at HRE and they put a set of heavier wheels on for a photo shoot. These wheels weighed about 27lbs each- no brainer I could tell the difference.

And as mentioned they are cast and susceptible to bends, cracks etc. The quality is lesser in regards to fabrication (R and D), composition (forging), and fit and finish. They chip after a while (I owned a set) and clearly if you take a close up look at the wheel you will see the difference in build. Im sure there is more that experts can chime in on.

They dont come in custom set ups (nothing would ever fit a CLS) and they are not conical in nature. Please find me a BBS CH setup with 20x9 and 20x11 et 25 and et35. Now with that being said, they do fit an audience just not for me. Im driving a 115k car and what the quality of wheels to match along with perfection in looks. Im picky and work hard for what I have and wheels along with cars are my passion. HRE caters to this type of buyer. They do have the more affordable lines too (without true quality suffering).

I guess its like getting a CLS550 versus a CLS63TT--- pricing is huge and the differences to some are not worth it. To me, I get the best of the model I want and I get the best wheels. The cliche "you get what you pay for" holds true IMHO for wheels.

Why do you say "takeoffs"? Arent those the real deal?

If they are the real ones, they are forged and can bring decent coin... probably 2k if miles are low and the wheels are perfect.

What I meant by "take off's" is these would be the original take off's off my car if I were to go with after market wheels.

At the end of the day, ita wheel is a wheel and a watch is a watch. They serve the same basic purpose, but not all are created equal. You're definitely the target demographic for high-end wheel manufacturers. In my opinion, it makes sense that you would want to put only the best of the best on a high-end vehicle.

I've always believed that if you're going to do it, do it right. It's kind of like wearing a high-end couture tuxedo with a Timex watch...you could, but wouldn't a Rolex or Piaget be more fitting for the ensemble?

Fast cars in general....
It looks very similar to the Cor wheels I had them on my GTR.
I can't wait to see the pics of your car.
