Just thought I'd share...been waiting for this for a while. This came straight from AMG.

We've spent a good deal of time denying this one over the last couple of years. It was not in the plan for the US. But every time you guys told us that you wanted a GL63 we told AMG Product Management and they told AMG Executive Management, and guess what? Here it is for MY13. Product Management Exclusive Vehicles is proud to announce a new AMG flagship within our luxury SUV portfolio: the GL63 AMG. As the pinnacle of performance and technology with a specific focus on refinement and exclusivity, the GL63 establishes a command position as the clear choice for the discerning performance luxury SUV customer.

Starting from the inside, the GL63 amazes with its exclusive appointments and long list of standard features. Exquisite attention to detail, perfect ergonomics and a generous amount of space characterize the exclusive AMG interior. All seven seats in the high-performance SUV are upholstered in premium, designo leather. The electrically adjustable AMG sports front seats feature double stitching in a contrasting color, as well as AMG badges in the backrests of the front seats and the outer rear seats. The dashboard, armrests and door trim are finished elegantly with double stitching. On the exterior, unique styling cues for the GL63 include front and rear trim elements in a Silver Shadow finish, integrated running boards and of course the signature quad trapezoidal AMG exhaust tips.

The AMG 5.5-liter V8 biturbo engine delivers the perfect balance of horsepower and torque for a refined power delivery and performance that is expected of AMG. With a peak output of 550 hp and 560 lb-ft of torque, the GL63 AMG accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 (est) seconds. Also featured is the ECO Start/Stop System, which seamlessly provides additional fuel efficiency by automatically stopping and restarting the engine when the vehicle is stationary.

Power is delivered though the AMG 7 SPEEDSHIFT 7-Speed automatic transmission and routed to each of the 21" AMG wheels courtesy of the standard 4-Matic system which enhances the dynamic characteristics by splitting the drive 40:60 between the front and rear axles. The transmission offers 3 different modes (Controlled Efficiency, Sport and Manual) each with different shift characteristics allowing the driver to select a mode that suits their driving style of the moment or change it on the fly. To ensure the best handling dynamics, the AMG adaptive sports suspension with AIRMATIC package, consisting of air suspension, special struts, automatic self-leveling function and Adaptive Damping System (ADS), is combined with the Active Curve System and delivered as standard equipment.

First deliveries are planned for Q1 2013 with all final specifications, ordering information and pricing to be released in the near future.


The GL63 will be the focus of our next Performance Center in dealer training along with the G63 and the rest of the MY13 AMG information. This training will kick off in early fall.

 

its pretty awesome, but a 550 will pretty much do what you need it to as well as the amg, especially in this kinda vehicle

really wierd that the new gl550 and 450 are same engine, just different tune

 

We just upgraded from the 450 to the 550 and the only reason we did is that after you option out the 450 its get pretty close to the cost of a base 550 which is pretty optioned out. I gotta say that when I have to drive it, I am way more happy in the 550 and it looks way better too IMO.

The GL is going through a facelift right now...will be interesting to see what they'll do with the 63. My wife's GL already has dual pipes and nice AMG wheels...so we'll see.

 

The 2013 gl is more than a face lift its a whole new gen.

I dontn think the 2012 is getting the new engines.

Oh great another dangerous soccer mom vehicle. I like the gl but it's not useful unless you have a family.

 

GL is nice! A twin turbo GL is just SIK!

 

Here she is...Need lots of exterior mods IMO but could be a killer...

IMO everyone needs a truck at least here in So Cal. My 9 foot surfboards slides right in and there is no way I am putting a rack on top of my CLS. It also has a hitch so when my CLS is no longer street legal I have a beast to tow it in....

Imagine an AMG towing an AMG...pure heaven...
