Poll for a tune: Renntech v. Weistec
After actually experienced my friends M5 with Switzer P700 tune -- I'm more convinced to have my car tuned ASAP. I did a quick run, rolling from 50mph to about 105mph and the diff was about 3 car lengths [sorry didn't take video]. Please let me know what you guys think is better of both tunes. Thanks

Depends. I went with Renntech on my CLS because the service department wasn't freaked out by them. That may or may not be important to you. Might want to check with them.

Would that friend be Niko? As for the tune Id go for Weistec not only because pricing is better but because they are local (I think you are Cali). I always want to be close to my tuner not only if there are issues but also becuase its good to see their operation and possibly ramp up your mods.

X2 regarding Vic's comment. If you can find a tuner that is local and reasonable, then that is the best way to go.
Personally I think Renntech is way too expensive when you consider you can get other reputable tuners for a third of the price.

I had 2 M157's and had neither tune but since you asked:

That makes sense Vic, price wise Renntech is more expensive and their intermediate ECU tune is cheaper but I didn't realize before that Weistec has their tune on 600whp mark with $100 differnce while Renntech intermediate tune does not hit 600whp mark (about 25-30hp diff).
Thanks guys for the input ! Weistec it is
Note: How do you quote together people's replies so that I can reply them at 1 post? (sorry noob question)

I thought of AMS before too -- but after I discussion with my local shop about available tunes out there, I was left with Renntech and Weistec. Maybe because of their experience with their customers preference.

The oe tune and euro charge tunes are quite a bit cheaper aren't they. I'm not sure the reason for this. Did u consider those at all

Vic, my friend Tao -- he got his M5 not too long ago (took over the lease of my other friend M5). Yes, I'm in Cali.

I will personally go with Eurocharged (previous personal experience was awesome and he is running a summer special tough to beat).
Nothing wrong with Weistec and Renntech. Top tuners as well.

Btw, did you sell your M5 Vic? Saw it on a dealer listing a while ago -- exactly like yours HRE and all.
Anyway, I'm going to get my car tuned at Weistec tomorrow morning I will try to do another run with my friend Switzer tuned M5 when I got back.

You can't go wrong with Weistec. Have fun with the new found power. I can't wait to do mine.
I am going to the strip at the end of the month to see how the car does stock and will dyno as well. Then I will test after the tune.
If you were to do a quick search on the forum about Eurocharged, you should find enough feedback to prove that he is top notch. He has been on this forum for a long time.

AMG
I just saw this on renntech's website "RENNtech Intermediate ECU Upgrade E 63 (W212- 638 HP / 695 TQ for M157 Bi Turbo)"
Wonder if there are problems with their standard tune

Maybe I just didn't do my research that deep -- I might have heard about them but I just don't remember. I also heard about ETG?? but not reputable feedback from my shop.
Yes, I saw that too -- I was about to go with that tune at first, then I realized that there is about 30hp difference from Weistec with $100 diff in price while I get about 600whp. What I heard was their standard tune was too aggressive in the beginnning. I'm pretty sure they revised their tune accordingly now.

I have had Renntech tune four AMG's for me. I would not trust anyone else to tune my cars. If you buy a $100k car, shopping for discount tuner seems dangerous. Renntech has a large dealer network, including many MB dealers across the country to support you. (My dealer is a Renntech dealer too.) Or should I say, help you with any warranty issues. Renntech have been tuning AMG s for 20 yrs, the owner worked for AMG. There are always cheaper products out there, you bought a AMG, because you wanted the best, right.

Just because we bought a 100K car does not mean we can't be smart about purchasing after market parts.
Renntech prices are simply ridiculous.
If you have major engine failures, your ECU will be sent to Germany and your warranty claim will be denied. Your local dealer can try its best but their voice has little power. Renntech friendly dealers do it for the money they can charge. Other dealers will be mod friendly but people should not be fooled into thinking that buying Renntech tune is bullet proof when it comes to warranty.

Your correct, their is always something cheaper and that may be just as good as the higher price items. But you can not undercut your dealers by direct selling around them, otherwise you might as well not have them.
When you buy a new MB you sign a form that says your not going to export the car, and undercut the dealer in higher priced countries.
Next ime your on the eastcoast of FL. stop by Renntech and check out their operation.
