7g plus transmission failure
I have suggested to Mercedes Thailand that this is a safety issue that warrants a recall but their reaction is all noise but no action.
They have repaired the car by replacing the TCU electrics only and now the car is back it is still not right, we have lost all confidence in the brand and my wife will no longer drive the car at all as she doesn't trust it.
Mercedes doesn't call back when they say and their email responses have been dismissive.
Anyone thinking about purchasing C,E,CLS,S or in fact any class which uses 7g plus tranny should think twice as the problems from the old 7g are still present
Other than people having limp mode issues probably caused by tuning, this is the first time I hear that there is an issue with that transmission.
If you do not feel comfortable driving the car, push the issue up above your dealer. Hopefully you will get satisfaction and they will buy the car back from you.
Am doing that, waiting on reply from Stuttgart...
You would think a company like mercedes would be able to get it right after 50 years making transmissions but they don't seem to have learnt anything from the 7g problems. I think they should have just licensed the ZF 8-speed which seems to be reliable...
went to the top after getting nowhere with MB and ended up having a meeting with the CEO of MB Thailand. car had the TCU replaced and they assured me it would not recur as the updated part was 2014 spec and the problem was fixed. here we are 7000ks down the road and it has failed again in an even more dangerous manner.
car jumped down to 4th gear on the move causing a rear axle compression brake 4 times as it shifted all the way to 1st violently, this put the car into a slide into oncoming traffic while i had my wife and 2 month old baby in the car. managed to correct the slide and get back on my side of the road but the car was now in limp home mode and giving totally un-modulated violent gear changes. can not ever trust this car again and highly recommend that no-one should purchase a car with the 7g as they are unreliable pieces of crap that have now caused me 2 very dangerous driving situations in a car whose brand values are safety and reliability. Total fail MB
Never again !

I am sure you will get satisfaction. In the US, an attorney would love to have that case.
I still do feel you have a "lemon" car ie an exception to the rule as I have not heard of any other similar failures of that transmission even on highly modified cars pushing 50% more horsepower. I have heard of axles breaking but not transmission failures like you have encountered.
