Do you warm her up or not?
Hey Gents,
Last night my mates and I had a bit of a rant on whether you're meant to warm up your car before driving it.
Now I made the case that with my CLS63 AMG M157 that I warm it up till I see the OIL temp roughly 55 degrees(I'm in Austalia) than drive without applying too much load on the car. Once it gets to about 80 degrees where it goes from blue to white colour writing I drive it as an AMG should.
Do you really need to warm a car up nowadays? What do you gents do?

I wait for the revs to drop from the initial cold start but I don’t have a specific temp that I shoot for. I use the temperature gauge to determine when I go drive it hard, tho

I also wait for the needle to dip then pull off. About 30 seconds or so.

Too many to list
I'm from the midwest where temps can get as cold as -20 F, with wind chills below -30 F+; I wait until the cold start ends and then drive off gingerly, keeping rpm below 3K until it warms up and then I smash the throttle. No issues so far....

I have read a few times that modern cars with EFI do not need to be warmed up and that doing so it's just a waste of fuel. I start her up and simply drive off. I do not drive "spiritedly" until oil temp turns "white" (~180°?)

This is a hot debate amongst many different car forums. Manufacturers say go for it no warmup needed as EFI takes all factors into account. Physics calls BS on that. Think about it this way, steel expands and contracts with heat right? Well letting your vehicle warmup allows that process for the piston/cylinderwall/valvetrain to do so at a more uniform rate. Not warming it up and smashing it will cause hot spots near the exhaust valves.
With that said I let mine warm up until idle drops below 1k then drive leisurely until water temp is about 80. You also have to keep in mind here the tranny takes much longer to warm up than the engine.

I pause and enjoy during the M157 Cold Start until it drops to normal idle and then drive passively until the temp gauge reaches the white ~80C. A few neighbors have texted about my early Saturday work shifts recently.

I do the same, let the idle comes to normal before i drive & never drive hard until the temp is 80+. You don't go to the gym & start bench press with 3 plates side right away, unless you want to get injured.

Always wait for the needle to drop at startup, and I shoot for 150 degrees Fahrenheit before I get on it. Watched a million vids from Tasos Moschatos on the M157, you want it warm trust me.
