CLS63 oil change intervals
I'm changing oil every 5k.
$250-400 here at my dealer. Shouldn't it be different for a CLS, should it? Same drivetrain.
On another note, my last 5k change was at 17.5k. What do you all think of my waiting till 22.5k for my first major service? No warranty left, so...?

tedious work that is rather messy or when I don't have the time to do the work myself...its about half of the stealership charges.
The CLS 63 AMG (M157) has two multi-grade oils approved by MB (229.5): a 5W-40 and a 0W-40 both must be a full synthetic oil due to the high performance standards
of the engine and equally the stresses involved to the engine and oil...even if the oil does not mention the MB approval code (MB 229.5) you can still use it provided it has
the SAE/API certifications like: API SN or API SN Plus, (SAE, ILSAC, ACEA codes are included in the certification marks)...API Service: SN Plus, is currently highest
standard right now (set in 2018) for S marked (spark ignited) engine oils. ILSAC GF-5 (and now GF-6 for 2020) are the currently the highest standard as it
relates to its service/approval mark.
Some of the oils that meet or exceed the API Service SN Plus (0W-40 or 5W-40) are: Amsoil Signature Series, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, Valvoline Modern Engine
Full Synthetic Motor Oil, CAM2 FS, Liqui Moly Special Tec AA (made in Germany)...There are plenty of other brands that meet the API Plus certification but don't
yet make them in the grades noted above.
Personally, I would choose those brands that are in bold noted above as I have used them in my personal vehicles over the years in my American, Japanese, and German
brands. Lately I really like the Amsoil Signature Signature Series as they have served me well in my vehicles, I have noticed a marked difference in smoothness, lower oil
consumption, higher gas mileage and longer change intervals. Although, the Amsoil SS oil is pricey I feel it is worth it. I am also impressed with the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum
as a great oil across the board...The Liqui Moly is also a widely recommended German made oil for German/European made vehicles...
Good luck and YMMV.

contract with a well know digital marketing company. He saved his money for a sizable down payment and of course I helped him along the way and also helped
him secure the financing since he is pretty young and didn't have established credit yet. We drove the car home the 500 miles back from OH, it was quite interesting
putting down almost 600 hp on a open highway...
He purchased the car that was a off lease vehicle with around 23K miles on the clock and we wound up getting a good deal at around $11K off the cars fair market
value...I think he has 27K miles on it now.
He wants to get it tuned for more power, something in the neighborhood 750 HP/800 TQ which is easily doable for this vehicle and the stock AMG engine and tranny
can handle even more...I suggested not to tune it beyond those parameters...we just put new shoes on her via Michelin Pilot Sport AS 3+ tires on all fours got those
for about $235 per tire which was a good deal...
My background was in Mechanical Engineering and Firearms Technology so working on cars comes a little easier to me than most, doing the maintenance even in
a rather advanced vehicle like the AMG is fairly straight forward...
Ill try to post some pics of the car soon.

Thank you @Kei2thehwy , I think you will do just fine with your 2014 CLS 63 S AMG, 18K miles is quite low for the model year, hope you got
a great deal on it.
Trying to give my Son the opportunities I never had when I was growing up, as my family migrated from Europe in the early 70's and we grew up
poor. But by the Grace of God my children are in a much better socioeconomic position with a Conservative/Libertarian upbringing hopefully will
serve them well in life...
BTW, if anyone decides to purchase a used or certified pre-owned car especially one that is pricey I would recommend using a pre-purchase
inspection service (like lemon busters) it is worth the small investment up front...If the dealer or seller does not have the original window sticker
places like (monroneylabels.com) are a good resource and worth the small $7.99 investment...
Once again, Good luck.
Personally, in colder climates I would stay with a full synthetic 0W-40 grade oil like a Amsoil Signature Series, or a Pennzoil Ultra Platinum (The Euro Blend is fine if it
has API SN Plus certification)...A certified GF-5 or soon to come GF-6 certified oil is also just fine in the correct viscosity(s) like a 0W-40 or 5W-40 that are approved
for MB AMG engines.
I am aware that a extended oil change internal is used in many vehicles today (usually 10K miles) but, we are not talking about engines that cost $2K to $5K to
replace, in the case of a AMG 63 engine your looking at upwards of $80K to replace if the engine gets seized...a chance very few are willing to take I'm sure.
I always change my oil and filters at 5K mile Intervals, and periodically check for leaks and fluid levels on all my cars...oil starvation, oil burn off (or cook off) is a
dangerous thing for most modern gas engines and it won't take long for it to over heat or even seize b/c many modern performance engines run at very high
temps...
As for the Mobil 1 oils, they are not the same quality of the Mobil oils of the past, they are leaning towards profits and marketing instead of consistent high quality
standards that they used to have...Just look at the ASTM oil grading and testing standards and which oils consistently rank the highest...The quality of their base
oils have barely met standards testing (Blackstone Labs)...
This is my $.02 on the matter, your mileage many very.

It certainly can be confusing with all the different brands and claims of being a full synthetic or being better than brand X or Y and
so on...So, it boils down to what the Independent testing labs and organizations like ASTM and Blackstone Labs say on what engine
oils meet or exceed the highest standards like API SN Plus and GF-6 certifications, etc..
All the full synthetic certified API SN Plus/GF-6 rated oils cost about the same per quart or per liter, and all offer some form of mileage
warranty and/or engine protection warranty. It boils down then to which brands use the best base oils and have excellent high standards
and back up their brand with a strong warranty.
Many times its not a bad idea to call many of these oil brands and ask them do your oils meet or exceed (and by how much/%):
>ASTM D6891 (Wear Test)
>ASTM D5800 (NOACK Volatility Test)
>ASTM D92
>ASTM D5481
>ASTM D2896
Also, ask them do they list the all the ingredients and additives they put in the oil grade your interested in and does it meet or
exceed API SN Plus standards, some oils meet this standard but have not yet been labeled with the certification/approval.
Good luck.

Stay safe everyone.
Was told by a lot of people that it is a waste to change it this soon.
Meh, oil and filter is around 100 to 110 US! I do the change myself.
Iron Sheik
warranted (depending on the type of oil/grade used) due to the added stresses/heat involved...
Good luck.
