Spark Plug Replacement
#5
Do you mind posting links or part numbers? I'm thinking of doing mine on a 2012 CLS 550 (61 000KM) to try and remedy a very intermittent rough idle that shows up. Did you end up buying that special sleeve to remove the coils?

You will need a 14mm 12 point socket to finish the job. I use one manufactured by ATLIN. You can get it from Amazon. I believe you will need an E-TORX bit for that. If you don't have a TORX bit set or an E-TORX bit set, you should really get one.
It says its for BMW but this is what I use.

As for the ATLIN socket it would be instead of this tool here for the plugs themselves? --> (https://mbworld.org/forums/attachmen...o-photo619.jpg)
Btw, as for the rough idle, I found another thread regarding faulty cam sensors on W218's around 2011-2013 so I decided to check mine and sure enough I had the bad ones as well. Just replaced them today with the redesigned part and it has solved my idle/CEL P2096 messages. Regardless I'd still like to do the spark plugs and coils soon.

Thanks for the reply, yes I have a good TORX + E-TORX set.

The Amazon seller just needs to their list of cars this tool is compatible with. When I ordered the tool it said the same thing. I went and measured the recess leading to the spark plug and since the tool has a outer diameter of .7" (17.78mm) and the recess has is a bit larger (~22mm) I choose to buy the tool. You have an M278 engine which has the same spark plug recess measurements than my engine.

fyi, after doing my camshaft sensors (known to be faulty for those years) my check engine light hasn't returned and the car performs normally again

Maduro,
It is wise to go ahead and replace them since you would be taking your spark plugs out anyway. You should be good for another 50-80K. If you do decide to change the coils out, save the old ones just for backup, although you will be yanking on them to remove them you never know when you need a coil or two.
