CLS 63 or 65?

I think its the CLS63. The 65's have 19's as stanadard 'cos of the brakes. This car looks equipped with the 18's.

Let the speculation begin!

How about a good photoshop? Look at the back, do you see any indication of a trimline? Can anyone identify the country of registration by looking at the plate?

Are you talking about emblems? I wouldnt expect to see any on a testbed car anyway. Plate? Most here are not from anywhere in Europe so even if it were legible, most still wouldnt know where it was from. I dont think those points are nearly enough to call it photoshopped.

That fudged grey writing at the back says, I'm pretty sure, "Erprobungsfahrzeug" as in test vehicle.

Something hot is sure being tested....

drilled calipers....hard to photoshop. Do the CLS500's come with those? No rear wing though. Why dont you tell us more about the picture...like where you got it?

Bilal,

Did you read the new S class AMG is going to be S63 AMG and S65 AMG with the S65 having 6.5 V12 TT. This was on autospies. Now, I might have to wait for the CLS65 with the 6.5 V12 TT as oppose to the current 65 series setup. I bet the new 6.5 would be 700hp. I also bet it won't be out until 2008. Now that I think about it, maybe its better to get the current 65 because most of the bugs, if any, have been worked out and let MB work out the new engine for 1-2 years first. Always dreaming of more torque!!!

It surely is the 65 (V12). The 63 (V8) isn't ready yet. I think.

Besides the 63 (V8, 500hp atmospheric) it thought to be the successor of the 55Kompressor.

Deutschland/Germany - all AMG test-cars have german license plates with BB as first 2 letters.

In Europe the 6.3 V8 is coming around summer 2006 (june). AFAIK there isnt a 65 AMG planned for this car.

The Autobild spyshots suggest there is. And frankly, I wouldn't know of a reason not to build a 65AMG, as there are bound to be people that are going to buy it.

CL65 & ML63
One of the reasons that Mercedes might not produce a CLS65 is their concern that it might not sale. The SL65 and CL65 were real hot and commanded over sticker. But, once the initial cars were sold the market for the car dropped like a rock, at least here in San Diego. Maybe as much as $30,000. My dealer has had a silver CL65 for over a month and would love to get anywhere close to sticker for it. Or better said they would just like to talk to someone that might be interested in the car. My dealer's concern is two fold. Customers will not pay that much more for just an engine and at the price buyers have other car options. Otherwords, Mercedes may have a limit as to how much they can sell cars for in any kind of numbers. Also, a friend of mine bought a SL65 for sticker and thought he could sell it for over sticker, but after 3 months of trying he now would take a hit and get rid of the car.

I for one would buy a CLS65, but only if the price was more reasonable. I am number one at my dealer for the new CL, but when it comes time to order the car I will have to decide on which engine I buy.

Cls 65

I have an S65 and I think it is a great car, yes it is over priced but you are buying a high performance sports car & a saloon car. I think the CLS 65 looks great from the front but the back is quite ordinary. I prefer the oval exhaust pipes from the S65. Does anyone know when the CLS 65 is out ? :v

They make them on order. If a dealer orders it for the showroom and doesn't sell it's his problem. Perhaps after the CL, SL 65 depreciation race dealers won't order a 65 for the showroom as quickly. But there are bound to be enthousiasts that want a CLS65.

We'll see. Anyway, as I said earlier, the CLS55 (and 65 if/when it comes out) is arguably the best looking MB for sale now.

Price Drops

All I can add is that about mid way through the run of the SL600 (129 series) my local dealer was selling them for HIS cost and still had a hard time moving them. Had to take them because of his allocations, but he didn't enjoy them using his "floor cost" and not bringing in any business.
It was, and still is, a great car - but expensive.

I hope MB//AMG really does put out the CLS 65, maybe to respond to Porsche's planned Panamera (top spec engine planned for 500+ Bhp).

A CLS 65 would be a fantastic car, at circa 1850kgs being lighter than a CL65 (2110kg), SL65 (2070kg) and S65 (2220kg). Although for that reason, MB//AMG may decide against it as it would draw buyers away from the CL,SL and S as the CLS would be much more cheaper.
On the other hand, it would be a good idea if MB//AMG can release the CLS 65 at the same time as the projected next-generation flagships - CL69, SL69, S69.
Now that would be an awesome autoshow!
