2006 CLS 55
Disposition of my 2004 E55

Later this month, I am taking delivery of my 2006 CLS55. [For those who want to know, I put a deposit down in October 2004; it is silver with ash and laurel wood, with all options except distronic and keyless go.]

I need to sell my 2004 E55, platinum blue, perfect condition, all options except the aforementioned distronic and keyless go. The car has 16,000 miles on it. I looked at the websites of the Mercedes dealers in the San Francisco Bay area where I live, and there is nearly no inventory at all of 2004 E55s (or 2005s, for that matter).

I am interested what others here think would be a realistic price for me to expect to receive if I were to (a) sell it to a dealer and (b) sell it to a private party.

Thanks!

I've seen them priced from 70-77K at auction. Dealers in the Bay Area have them 78-95K used.

2004, right? Prices seem to be right around $60K. Kelly Blue book has it at $59K for "good condition" trade in value (Reality is that no dealer gives any better than that unless they are getting something from you). Others have been on here in similar position. Some can get mid 60's in open market but you can buy one (a 2004) in a second on ebay for $65K and it has fewer miles that yours. Here the link...

Just confused how the earlier post stated that at auction they are going in the $70K's and dealers selling in the $80K's. Based on your information, he would be lucky to get $65K.

Based on what I have seen in my area, the prices on the first post seem more closer to what folks are paying.

BTW - Dealer in my area has a 2004 with 16K miles listed for $79,900. Hope this helps.

Correct - Dealers get SIGNIFICANT markup. This is WELL known. They pay you $60K for your car and then sell it to someone else for AS MUCH AS THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH. This is basic sales 101. The fact is that he can get FAR more if he sells his car to a private person than he can trading it in. Another guy on this board recently traded up to a CLS55. He was asking $74K for his nearly immaculate E55 with similar miles. The dealer offered him $65K. He offered it up on this board for that amount. Don'tknow if he got it or not as that thread has since been purged.

When I sold me CLK55, I got nearly $7K more from a private party than I could get the Benz dealership to do. At the time I was interested in a E55 but had already negotiated the price on it before the trade details so the dealership had nowhere to go with any additional incentives. So, I'm still shopping E55/CLS55 is the current decision. CLS55can be had for about $90K MSRP base model. Used E55's are between $58 and $68 (2003/2004 models)

thanks.

Glad I love this car so much that I have no plans to move into something else. I can see this being my family sedan for many more years.

estimate a $1.00 per mile off the MSRP on a 1 year AMG trade-in. Ex. $86K MSRP 2004 E55 with 16,000 miles: $70K trade-in.

At Manheim auctions they have been pulling 68k to 72K.
Dealers will offer you 67-69K in trade...
