Is traction much better with wider tires on 19s?

Hi,

The only reason I'm considering changing rims and tires is to improve traction.

My question to all xyz55 owners:

How much did your bigger 19s or 20s improve your traction in turns and straight line?

On the factory set-up I constantly spin out of turns and during straight line WOT. The traction control kicks in and catches it again but I would like it better if the car just had more traction.

What are the widest front/rear tires and offsets combinations an E55 and CSL55 can acommodate?

I don't want to end up with rims/tires that don't fit.

Thanks,

Oliver

Widest on an E55 is 285 with the proper backspacing. Any wider will rub (see thread in E55 section regarding "295 wiggle").

The widest I've seen on a CLS is 305, but do not know if he had any rubbing issues.

Instead of looking for wider wheels, you may want to consider better performance tires and an LSD (limited slip differential). Keep in mind that the extra weight of larger wheels slows a car down.

4 wheels
Also keep in mind that if you are running stock tires you are sorely lackiing grip in all areas. Some Michelin PS2 tires and your problem will be solved for a great part. Though the blown 55K engines produce so much power that you will still spin be able to spin the tires while at a standstill.

Picked up my car today with LSD, what a difference in launching, Definitly consider it. I am ride on Conti, and LSD made a big difference. LSD + PS2= winner combination.
