Cls55 & Cls63

Hey guys, CLS63 comes out after CLS55 has come out for only about 1 year.

do you guys feel getting cheated by MB?

is there any cosmetic differences or any facelifts between these 2 models?

I don't feel cheated, I'd rather have a car that was only built for one year and 1200 produced, not to mention a engine that has been out for several years. To the guy that has to have the latest and greatest and just bought a 55, then he might feel bitter, but I'm sure he would just trade it in. Also a $6k increase on MSRP and gas guzzler, makes my 55 more appealing.

Cosmetic changes also include, black gauges, and paddle shifters on the wheel.

Think about it, a car with near infinite tuning potential that only had a production run of 1200 cars total? People would be crazy to sell their CLS55's, and personally I can't wait to get one to compliment my ///M.

No regrets here, I love my 55.

The money I saved compared with a 63 (big discount off MSRP, lower base price, lower gaz guzzler tax, fewer options) paid for awesome aftermarket rims, Euro COMAND with DVD-in-dash, roof spoiler, lowering module, and part of a Renntech performance package giving me almost 600 HP.

The 63 is no doubt awesome. Exterior styling is the same except for badging; my car is already debadged by choice. Inside, I prefer the white backlit gauges of the 55. I do like the new steering wheel with paddles. I'll either get a CLS63 wheel (or just the paddles if they are made available) for my car. If it turns out the new wheel isn't compatible, I'll get a similar aftermarket one from Brabus. Maybe their shift knob too.

The new brakes on the 63 should be an improvement, wonder if they can be retrofitted onto a 55 ?

Personally I love the combination of the 55K engine and 5sp transmission, for me it is probably a better choice than the new drivetrain since I like the hard push in the back from all the torque and don't get to drive over 100mph frequently. Whether the 55K or 63 is faster is still up in the air, probably they are very close at least to 100mph. But against a 55K with pulley, ECU, TB, header upgrades... the 63 will look nice in the rear view mirror

CLS 55 AMG
Man you guys couldnt have put it any better. Im in love with this car more and more everyday. The looks, the handling, the smell, comfort...and most of all..the sound. Driving on the highway doing around 75-80 mph at around 2200-2300 rpm..the engine sounds...i dunno....cant explain it..all i know is that i got a big grin on my face and wish the ride will never end. Im keeping this one...trying not to put too many miles on it though....its hard not to, but i try.

SL55 AMG Black on Berry Red
i agree 100%. i know i don't have a CLS but i LOVE my SL55. I had a SL500 and the 55 is sooo much better. but i saw the CLS63 at the dealer and the only cosmetic change is the badging. i'm not encouraging this but you can buy the badging off ebay for $15~! yes i know the CLS63 engine is the first NA engine AMG has made, but does it justify the price difference from the 55? i don't think so, especially when you probably have to pay a premium for the 63. IMO, buy the 55. you will NOT regret it at all~! you can zooom past almost anybody in your 55 anyways so quick they won't be able to read if it said 55 or 63~!

Jeremy Clarkson said it best... "like Barry White eating wasps"

With the new airbox, throttle body and headers, out go the wasps and in come the African bees!!!

I went out of my way to make sure to get a 55, not the 63. Love that TORQUE!
