Thumbs up 0-60 Times for CLS63 AMG

I just ran a few 0-60 sprints on a level road tonight...

Date: 11/2/06
Time: 7:10 PM
Temp: Approx 60 Degrees
Humidity: ? (low)
Device: Passport G-Timer
With: '07 CLS63 AMG; 1,700 miles

1st Run: 4.28
2nd Run: 3.92
3rd Run: 3.90
4th Run: 3.90

I know that this isn't perfect science....but, I'm Damn happy right now...The misconception about the new 6.3 engine is that it is SO DAMN SMOOTH, you don't realize how fast it really is!

Take it for what it's worth...

CLS63AMGGUY,

That is great times. You should be extremely happy.
Do you get a lot of ESP if you just floor it at the light?
How did you launch it to get such good times?
ESP on or off? Do you have the 030 package?

Congrats. Thanks.

1) First run was with ESP on
2) No, I don't have the 030 Pkg
3) Yes...I get tire spin...
4) I have found that the best way to launch...left foot on brake and right on gas...giving just a bit of gas. (Setting: Sport...not Manual...seems that the computer shifts perfectly, where there would be human error if I left it in Manual)

Thanks for your questions...

PS - I bet I can get in the low 3.8s !!! Once again...so smooth...no wheel hopping...

Is it me or does the new motor need a little time to loosen up like some have suggest before? C&D got 4.1 secs 0-60 recently also. When they turbo this motor around 2010 or so the power figures are going to be absolutely ridiculous. Traction may be the biggest problem.

I'll try to get some 1/4 mile runs in...tough finding a long flat area to get in that 1/4 mile...

AMG_Power:
I'll bet I get lower than 12.5

CLS63AMGGUY,

Thanks for your answers. For your 2-4th runs, you had ESP off?
Didn't you get lots of wheel spin? Or was it just the right amount?
Did you just hammer the throttle, or do you have to be gentle?
I wonder if the 030 option would help or hurt your times?
Great times never the less.

The LSD on the 030 package for the CLS63 offers 40% locking, I would hope that it would only help get a better launch resulting in lower times.

As the tires heated up...less wheel spin...i had a lot of spin on the 3.92...not so much on the last two. yes ESP off...and I almost hammered it all the way.

On our 55 engines, if you hammer it, you can easiy go sideways.

How is it on the CLS63 when the tires are spinning? Is is controllable?
Do you think after the ECU learned that you were doing some quick sprints that if you did a 5th run with ESP on, you might have gotten below 4 seconds too?

Thanks.

wouldn't the heavier wheels and brakes offset LSD? Are the stock wheels equally as heavy. I guess I should read and see how heavy me car is...hmmm

Heavier wheels and brakes won't substitute for a LSD. Besides you'll get better times with lighter wheels and brakes and a LSD.

Thanks but what I meant was wouldn't the heavier wheels cause slower 0-60 times of the cls63 030, or would LSD create an advantage that more than makes up for the heavier wheels on the 63 performance package?

If I were to have it my way...very conservative !!!

I hope close...I ran it with my e46 M3...had consistant 0-60 times of 4.6 (with a K&N air intake) and 1/4 of 12.88 - 13.0 which seemed right on.

Yes even with wheels spinning it's very controllable. I can't imgine it going "sideways".
