Jeep dusting

Yesterday on Fairfax avenue heading south a smoked out black on black SRT8 got on my arsh...It was traffic time, well it is always traffic time but some how he wriggled up on my passenger side prior to the street merging into ONE lane..Well by Gosh I was not gonna let my AMG brothers down and plus he could have just stayed behind me. My heart started pumpin a bit and I took a deep breath. I decided to use my PADDLES , oh boy.. 0-30 I am not doing very well, I guess I missed a shift or did not shift at all, finally the car pulls away clean and seriously swallowed the jeep. I was very sickened by my poor paddle performance. I was going 80 ish and the jeep was very small behind me. I stop at the next light(pico) He raced up and got right on my arsh again and I decided to turn , he guns it hard and passes me. The jeep stayed with me on the launch but had no chance from 35-80. It did suprise me and yes I was thinking **** I really will be sick if beaten by a SUV, mini truck etc.. Damm. Debadged CLS 55 on Cahuenga tonight (Laguna Nigel) plate bracket? Black.. Turned on Outpost and the La pressa? Anyone here? I was chasin U...(stealth) nice car BTW

Ok, You are the one posted a kill of a 997T before Christmas that got everyone in an uproar about the validity of it. You also posted that you found the S mode after having the car a while. If you want to "play" or to get the most performance from the car, I'd like to sincerely suggest that you go to driving school, a test track or at least some empty roads to learn to drive your car. With practice you will get better in mastering your car, so you raise the probability of winning, and be safer to people around you when you get on your throttle. Typically when you "race" your adrenline goes off the chart, if you have a better baseline of the control of your car, you will feel better about your performance.

You can take my suggestion with a grain, heck a pint of salt, but I do not mean to be condesending nor possess any malice in it. I do strongly feel that if you are going to race around with >500 hp under your foot, you should feel good about your performance afterwards.

I "played" with my friend in his Charger SRT8 yesterday in my 55 after we met for lunch. Beat him all 3 passes and he said- your car is faster than mine. His car has a new CAI, catback.

Hey at least it sounds like you got the kill.

Next time, don't shift with the paddles unless you're racing a Ferrari. The S-Mod WITH ESP ON works better than most drivers.

I raced a Jag tonight on Jamboree by the Google building. The guy tried to get the jump on me with both cars rolling at around 40 mph, I pulled away from him before he even got 1 foot. Felt great!

I always get theses junky and crappy cars trying to engage me. Not worth the gas to blow away a 90's camaro with chevy logo tail pipes. I need something more challenging.

I guess I did not give the JEEP enough credit...The 997 , I was the underdog for sure, plus that was in a u t o ma t ic..The paddles I think require practice and shifting in the proper power band. I waxed the 997 and would say I could have lost to the jeep had the car not finally caught 3rd gear. My post just shows you can win or lose to just about anything. My poor driving cost me a bit but the car was obviously too much for the suv. The Porsche 997 driver may have done something wrong as I definately smoked him off the line. I will heed your advice and go TAKE A LESSON on a track prior to my next paddle use. Have a great weekend...

So you have not used the paddles much either? It says in the book it offers 50% better shifts? The car even in sport shifts so fast it never gets to the max HP...In drive S Im in 4th gear by 50. Can you change the shift points in the computer?

Do you mean "Faster" shifts?

My experience, if you don't shift at precisely the proper moment (in the lower gears) you redline! I keep it is S mode and downshift and let the car's computer do the rest...BUT if I can shift FASTER in M then I really need to practice up...(S mode shifts quite fast...is it really possible to shift faster in M mode???)

Here's how you get the S-mode to shift a lot better (higher shift points). you put it in S-mode and the you shift down using paddles all the way down to the lowest point it will go. Then it will almost redline before shifting. If you just switch to S-mode and leave it in D then it shifts a lot smoother and waaay before red which doesn't get you optimum shifts.

Did any of you try to put the car in M, and not shift yourself while accelarating? The car still shifts just a tad at the redline. What do you guys think about that???

Nope it does NOT. Mine will stay in redline all day if I let it. Are you sure? Maybe the 63 and 55 are different.

not to burst your bubble, but the jeep is $40K

now if you said you killed a ferrari, porsche, aston or something else that was more expensive, then I would be patting your back. But a $40K jeep??
