Wheel Question/Lowering

Going to install new wheels on the CLS55. 20x9(Front) and 20x11(Rear). Do I need to lower the call after installing the new wheels?

Thanks,

Al E

Absolutely. Otherwise it will look like a 4X4. Dont do ELM, use links, it works the same and less than half the price

How do links work? How easily reversable? How much? Where? Please write a small article on the links method of lowering thanks bro, I'd really appreciate more info. I'd really like to lower soon and can't decide.

Definetly. I've done that on my past 6 benzes, It works perfectly fine and gives the same result for a couple hundred bucks. ELM is a waste of money.

I used the links and they work just fine.. especially for $240 shipped compared to the more expensive systems.. You can easily adjust them in minutes or just put the OEM ones back on if need be..

How low did those links get you, Is your car slammed or still an inch up. Can u post pics of the old links so we could compare the difference.

you can lower it as low as you want with the links.. right now i'm waiting on my 20's to get in so it is sitting pretty low on the factory 18's with about a 2 inch drop all around.. I keep it in standard ride height right now because if i go down using the button i'm sure it will look slammed.. I will see how it looks with the 20's and lower profile tires before doing any adjustments.. speaking to larry and a few other on the board 2 inches is perfect with 20's.. I dont have the oem links out to take a photo but there is a post somewhere on here with photos of the factory links.. just do a search and you will find some comparison photos..

Well are those links adjustable? I lowered my car even more yesterday just to kill the gap.

Those links are threaded. So you can adjust the threads and the ride height is fully adjustable.

However, I'd go for Renntech ELM, which would actually raise the car back to the correct height if I go faster than 80mph+ The last thing I want is my car bottoms out at 80+mph

Confused????
Do I have to purchase a lowering module or does the CLS55 have that capability.

Thanks,

Al E

To answer your question:

There are THREE (3) routes that you can choose from:

1. Lower the car through the Star Diagnostics (but you need someone that has the machine and is willing to do it) You don't have to buy anything if you go this route, but the drop is limited, 1/2 - 1 inch max
2. Use the adjustable lowering links
3. Use one of the lowering modules from the tuners

I guess in addition to the correct answer above and why i asked if it was a real question is because there are two buttons below your shifter.. the one of the left raises your car to maximum height..maybe less than 1/2 inch and the other button has two settings 1 and 2.. which lowers your car i would image less than 1 inch total.. I'm guessing and maybe kev knows the exact amount it raises and lowers so the second answer to your question is YES your car lowers and raises itself periodly during the course of you getting in and out of the car, while driving and using the above mentioned buttons..

Have a great Easter weekend !

I think Sports 2 setting will be the lowest setting (Sport 1 does not lower your car) that you can go on a stock car and the car should lower itself about 1/2-3/4"

If you do the Star Dx method, your car will still lower in Sports 2 or if you go over 80mph+. I went this route because I don't want to splice wires to get the drop. My drop was only 1/2" though.

Al,

I sent you an email on the lowering module instructions. Did you receive it?
