Is this normal? (55 owners plz)

i know i have asked a similar question before, but i recently got a comment from a passenger so i just have to make sure its ok...

basically when i start the car it idles at 1200rpm and then slowly drops to 800rpm... (which you guys have confirmed is ok)...

after i have waited for the rpms to drop down to 800 and i put it in DRIVE , the rpms drop to 600, my passenger commented that this is lower than usual for this type of engine (although he doesnt drive a merc )

so is it ok ?

i attach a picture, and also two videos on youtube, which show 55s (both supercharged and NA) idling at the same rpm... just making sure

links to videos (not my car)

thanks once more

Seems normal to me, when you start it cold the computer automatically bumps up the rpms I believe and once it reaches standard temps the rpms drop. Mine idles after warm up around 600 rpms.

thanks Vic55 ... when the engine is started from cold it drops from 1200rpm to 800rpm in about a minute, and if i engage gear it goes further down to 600rpm before i drive off... maybe i should wait for it to warm up a bit more before driving off

As for the picture , its taken after the car has been driven for about 30 miles and is warmed up. it stays at 600rpm (irregardless of whether the gearbox is in D or P )... i take it its the same for you

My car does the exact same thing. It idles at around 1,100 when the engine turns over, drops to 800 after a minute, and when I put it in drive, it drops to 600. The idle stays at about 600rpm until I switch off the ignition.

This is all normal for my engine and I have had my car for a little over 3 years. There are times where it actually idles under 600 rpm. Oh there is no need to wait for warm up- driving it will do that.

Normal for about every car on the road. The drop in RPM when going into drive is simply the car engaging in drive.
You passenger screwing with you?

The MB V8's I've had (CLK55 and E420) both idle at around 500/600rpm when in gear.

I have noticed that other cars idle at higher engine speeds when in gear. It could also be a case of tachometers calibrated differently.

07- BG, eh? Dobra den! Interesting...I spent quite a bit of time several years ago all over BG on business, but especially in Sofia; lovely city, beautiful, sultry women. There were a lot of black MBs w/ ex-Spetznaz bodyguards and Russisky "working girls" at that time at the Park Hotel Vitosha and the Sheraton Balkan.. Some great memories. So now you have AMG's there also? Why not? I think your symptoms are normal, however. Dovishdanay!
