Talking Rookie Drag Day Results

Track conditions were HORRIBLE. Sand , 40-60 mph gusts, slippery oily track.
Altitude 2710 ft
correction .97 to ET
correction 1.03 to mph

Did about 40 runs from 6p.m to 10p.m.

First thank you guys for spending time at the track on a terrible day. We learned alot and got to really practice. Just so you guys understand The group of Z06 drivers best times were low 13's tonight at LACR. Fastest trap was 119 mph by a motorcycle. The day started out as 1/8 mile track because conditions were so poor. Since I have over 40 time slips and did not run the BEST time of the day I will let the other drivers scan slips and post on this thread.

My car was not really getting traction and esp blinked all the way down the track. My 1/4 mile time was bested by samssonz who did an amazing 12.99@ 109. Most of the night my trap speeds were higher and my times worse, how does that happen? Many times I beat the other car down the track and my times were worse?

This was so mouch fun. I know on a better day the 63 and the 55 CLS could do much much better. The 55 had trouble with traction and managed to get better as the night went on. On one run I was matched up with the 07 Z06, guess what? It was my best run and I had an MOV of .051, he was definately catching me but the race ended WOOOHOO. 63 vs 63 rule hold true on the streets and the track "who ever gets the jump, stays in front". 63 vs 55 , uh can you say 2 much torque? 63 did a bit better in the traction department and managed to stave off the 55's power for most of the evening. Mike did achieve some nice trap speeds and decent times considering the horrible conditions. 030 cars vs non, uh amazingly enough the non 030 had the fastest 1/4 mile.

Most of the runs were filmed, Mike, you are awesome and the car was just starting to get going.. Drive it hard and it will get better.

We certainly could have used some drag radials. Drag Racing is so much harder than I thought. The launch, traction, shift points, traction and traction.

The 63 although the times will be likely met with disapointment really did no worse than the vettes or the shelby gt, that was about it for comparisons. The 55 suffered from too much wheelspin. Course my 63 had real traction issues as well, I managed only 4 strong runs out of the 40. When I say strong keep in mind this is my first time EVER drag racing. Also the other two CLS drivers were virgins.

We have some GREAT pro photos available on tues, and some race video. I think the video will show just how horrid conditions were. I suppose when they close the track and turn it into an 1/8 mile drag it likely tells the story.

Thericker is gonna LOVE the Vette vs. 63 stuff, mind you the Vette driver politely asked me "hey will you run me" I said sure, but seriously was not looking forward to being destroyed in PUBLIC..... LOL I won, guy musta sh*t. The announcer says "NOW WE HAVE A SIXTY THOUSAND DOLLAR LUXURY YACHT" Vs. A new Z06 Oh so classic SAM , great driving man, sorry you are not the fastest 63 time just yet!! We will get there. 12.99 is incredible on this night.

Im glad you guys have been bitten by the drag racing bug, it is fun!! Juice nice MPH relative you your altitude. Now to be realistic, I assume the Z06 was probably getting no traction.

Nobody was, this really seemed to equalize all the cars. Shelby GT was sweet, sounded great, was running similar times to the 63 and the vette, nobody really stood out except the fact they kept calling our cars luxury vehicles LOL

Thanks from the WORLDS fastest CL 600!!! I used to wonder, why do these guys "drag race" , just enjoy your cooled seats and wonderful comfort. I feel sick, I cannot sleep, I want to learn to drive , what an incredible SPORT. Man so many questions. Here is one real perplexing question. On one run 63 vs 63, I clearly beat Sam , my time was worse, but under my number it said WIN and MOV .207 for me ,but his time was clearly 2/10th better? So is it the time or who crosses the line first that WINS? I assume it is the line crosser? `

WoW! sounds like fun! you did very well considering the track your were on, (I've heard nothing but horrible reviews of LACR) I have back ordered Michelin Pilots 345/30's are hard to come by! deff soundz like your going to be stiff competition! C6 Z06 deff had trction issues, was he the only Vette you ran? I didn't quite understand from your story? did you run a reg stock C6 as well?

I also hear they'll be closing LACR this year, but not to worry suppose to be opening new ones in San Diego, & neighboring countys

We have to meet up and have a day of carnage you me & your bros, also Trez63! funny side note same thing happened to me w/cell falling under gas pedal? what the ***?? wasn't videoing just racing & talking, also what is it w/Beemer dudes? I have yet to find (1) that'll line up proper? they see you and run! no fairness what so ever, I have to do stupid things to catch up,(ie lane changes etc) not worth racing arseholes like that! keep up the good work but keep it safe brutha!

To be fair to the Vette we ran 4 times, same guy same car..He won the other 3 , lol. BUT all the races were really close and Both cars had serious traction problems. My car seemingly always got the jump, my reaction times were better. The other times however were embarrasing so i did not post em :-). We were dead even going down the track. I did notice at the end of each race he was starting to pass :-(. My one win I was able to hold him off and my trap speed was the highest of all the cars @111. Honestly the cars were close under terrible conditions, yes this car should murder the 4500 lb CLS. I think our cars are easier to drive? I also beat the Shelby Gt 2007, he had some great trap speeds he never waivered. I think he may have hit 114, on one of the last runs which would have topped my 111. So yeah I posted my win which was the first RACE . He plucked me out of my group to smash a 100k car, he seriously had to have been shocked. Sad the BMW guys do not race on the drags. The cars really are not good drag cars unless the track SUCKS then we got you man..

We have alot of work to do, we need to get to 12.8, 12.7 then shoot for 12.6. I think 12.6 would be just fine for the heavy beast, going to take the perfect run on the perfect day to do it, but it is POSSIBLE

This is a FACT. The car gets faster, you have to run it. I did manage my best time at the end of the night. Also I think the track was gradually getting better as the wind died down and the dirt stayed of the track. From all accounts on this board LACR is the worst. I guess if I learn on the worst track in California when I see a nice track , I will be ready!

An E63 on the other thread claims a 8.27 in the 1/8th which is amazing. Also another 63 ran a 12.8 under horrid conditions at firebird in az. So you will not be sad be the performance of the 63. I hope you learn from all our trials. Have a great Sunday!

First of all, it was great meeting the faces behind all these messages. thanks SAMSSONZ and juicee63 (BTW juicee63- I knew it was you by you right fender trademark. It's not that noticable).

Second, I spend all day Sunday dumping the sand from the air cleaners, getting it out of the interior and then massaging another coat of wax onto the beast to make it pretty for next weekend's AMG Challenge.

Third, I understand why these AMGs are AMGs. They are just outright mean and not intended for the weak at heart (the exception of Paris Hilton and her SLR). I could drift all down the 1/4 mile if I really got onto it. Practice, practice is what it takes to get close to what the 55 (or 63s for the guys that just need to have the newest of everything) can do---12.4 at 114MPH. It can be done on a decent track with good off the line skills-quick reaction times and a measured right foot on the throttle.

It was a great eve, what happened to you guys on the way home? Juicee63 took the wrong ramp to LA ( I think he ended up in Vegas) and Samssonz took a rest on the shoulder of the southbound 14. You guys petered outor eve! And I thought I was getting tired at 11:30PM!

A tip for the Racers--I used about a 1/2 tank of fuel at the track. Make sure when you run there is a nearby gas station. YOU WILL NEED IT!

Samssonz--I need my rest Wednesday night. I will be at the AMG Challenge over the weekend. Great 305 x 20's you have on your rear. It mades big difference. I'm considering an upgrade.

Does these really fit 345/30's? Have you tried it. Samssonz has 305s on 20 inchers.

Sorry man your time was actually 12.59 using the SAE standard corrections . The normal correction is .97 on the night we ran it was .955. So my numbers were also better and my trap speed was higher than yours which could be the LSD at work! We can actually get about 3/10th better and I would imagine the tire thing will help alot. So I have #4 and you are # 3 we are slightly ahead of 05Venom and trailing XABO and Bluemax. Good luck to all of us rookies. The factory #s on the cls 63? One sec. 0-60 in 4.6 we know it is faster than that, 1/4 mile for the e63 is 12.7 , we are heavier so 12.8-12.9 should be about right.
