Contemplating trading in my E55 for a CLS55
While I love my 2005 E55, I admit to being crazy about the lines of the CLS. Just an incredibly elegant, futuristic design that will IMO maintain that 'concept car' level of beauty for a long time.
So with ~40k miles on the clock, I'm contemplating trading it in on a used '06 CLS55. Truth be told, though, I've never driven or been in a CLS. Just drooled over them from afar.
Being that they share almost everything that counts (powertrain, brakes, etc), my questions center on interior space and specifically rear seat comfort. What's it like back there? Adequte headroom for two 6' adults? Or pinched in? That roofline slopes pretty dramatically, and the doors look small. Any other interior oddness?
Also, is the center of the rear seat a console or just an armrest?
If any of you made the switch form the E, what are your general impressions of the CLS versus the E?
Thanks,
Skeeter

Skeeter,
I'm 6' tall and feel that the back seat of the CLS is perfect for 1-2hr road trips or short one at that. It is sometimes tricky for people to get in and out of the back seat and it takes some getting used to but IMO it's well worth it. I've owned mine for 8 months now and the new car feel has not worn out. Plus, it's a head turner and there is nothing else like it on the road.

To answer your question about the center, it is not a seat, just a armerest, and a place for the center console. Get it and don't look back, the reward for spending time in the front seat far exceeds the rear passenger's hassle for getting in and out.

You know I have never considered how comfortable my passengers are going to be in the back seat. It's my car you don't want to drive shut up and sit down.

I've thought about the CLS as well. I'm 6'3" and the lack of headroom in the back seat make them useless for me. Of course it's how the front seat fits that matters

What is truly AMAZING is the CLS looks more aerodynamic than the E , it is not...It seems smaller inside, it is LARGER. The CLS has more cu feet of interior space than the E.. weird eh?
