STAGE 1 CLS 55 vs CLS 63 030 VRP 530

well it finally happened.

Same track same day two different cars, two AMG's , CLS vs CLS..WOOHOO

Today at California Speedway I had the pleasure to compare my 63 to Jay's CLS 55 with Pulley and ECU from Evosport equipped with drag radials.

The runs were single lane due to high winds and a damaged left lane from 7 cars hitting the wall at the PSCA event last weekend.

The results as follows: It was 87 degrees and 20 mph cross wind DA =3060

CLS 63 030 VRP 530 (stock ECU) ET Streets 12.42@112.47
CLS 55 Stage 1 Evosport Hoosier drag radials 12.47@111.83
The last run we did at 4:40 pm

CLS 63 12.609@111.34
CLS 55 12.67 @111.18

This is a stage 1 CLS 55 with 18" wheels vs a ClS 63 with 19" fronts and 17" rears.

Was really neat to see the CLS 55 it was white , wish we could have raced but the track was very bad today and they only allowed one lane.

Jay, if you are here , great runs. Hope to see you again, next time we can line up and do it right.

Hopefully I got the mods right.

I witnessed this today myself, and was honestly expecting the CLS55 Stage 1 to easily over-take the 63, but it didn't. The 55 had some trouble breaking into the 12.5s

Same day, same time, same track, different engines, the 63 seemed to have the edge and kept it more consistently

Either way, both cars looked great on the track.....

Congrats to both guys for participating in this

This is strange, both cars only trapped 111mph. Shouldn't bone stock cars trap in the 114-116mph range?

Density Altitude was over 3000 ft with 87 F temps.

Track elevation is approximately at 1200 ft above sea level, and some say the track goes up-hill "slightly"

Corrected to sea level, both 55 and 63 would've trapped around 115 to 116

Bone stock at this altitude 107-108 mph.

This is 1250 feet above sea level and 87 dgrees. Heat and altitude dissapate HP. The 12.42 was actuall my 2nd fastest pass ever in my car when SAE correction is used. 12.0@116.XX. When we hit 12.1 its always at 60 degrees or less and about 600 feet or less altitude.

In Sept the E55 stock at this track was 13.0@108
E63 stock was 12.8@109

September actually was cooler than it was today , my car and this CLS 55 are likely .3-.4 quicker than stock 3-4 mph faster..estimating

Maybe on here somewhere he is an Evosport customer.

Pulley and ECU.

What do you think he would have HP wise?

I know my car is putting down 430-445 to the wheels

Maybe Jay will post up a dyno and some further info.

Juicee is your 430-445 based on your track set up or normal one?
I ask because i was wondering if the 17 effect the dyno to like they do the track . You see i am just looking into rim effects on speed now as my new mission got the tires! PS2 and omg the difference they made!

Rims and tire's make a huge difference . I just got the 17' rims they were not any better than the 19" champion wheels. I have never dynoed with anything other than 19" wheels. The lightweight Rims definately freed up hp. if you want 17" all the way around I have an answer that is cheap

I think Juicee63&Oldgixxer should split a track rental at Atco for just the 2 of us...Oh the thoughts..

well I ordered some rims that did not clear my brakes , 17x9, the tire shop had some take offs from a C class 17x8.5. 5x 112. They are heavy, but cleared the brakes easily.

we simply used a 9/16th drill bit and widened the bolt holes 2mm. No spacer, the wheels tucked great under the fender 11.50 inch contact patch.

The tires 26x11.50x17 from Mickey Thompson ET streets are the closest to a wrinkle wall slick you can get. They could not be spun by the 63, they would likely help the higher TQ cars. I could not spin em. I tried to launch at 2500 rpm and the car lunged through the tree and bogged. My 60 ft times were very consistant 1.90's so the tire is better for brackets as it took the fear away from the launch.

The reason I had to get a 17" was strictly tire choice. This ET street tire is a non -radial 1 ply bias tire and allows amazing flex and a car with more tq could likely achieve 1.60 all day long. Car is floating and feels like its on trhe ocean from 80-115..Definately hurts the trap.

I will likely just use em for bracket racing when being consistant matters most.

The CLS 55 had 18" rims and they had a Hoosier Drag tire which seemed to be working well.

The 63 is a pain in the *** to launch hard.
