6.2L Conversion
There was a mishap with my engine and now it needs to be rebuilt. After speaking with various people (dealership and independent shops), I was informed that you can re-do the bottom end...bore the block, sleeve it, new pistons, rods, etc.....Whats everyones thoughts?
The shop also claimed to have a client with this conversion and all bolt-ons including SLR cams....claims 600RWHP

The way you talk it looks as if your rebuild will not done under warranty. Can you explain?

I'm also interested in knowing what caused the engine failure.
It is very possible to get all that done, but the hard part would be getting it to run correctly. I am not sure anyone has tuned a massive rebuild of this nature. Im sure VRP or Evosport would be able to make a custom tune. I notice you didnt mention anything about the crank, that will have to be modified as well. You might also need supporting hardware such as an upgraded fuel pump and cooling mods is you plan on keeping it supercharged.
Good luck if you decided to go though with this project, keep us posted.

The car sustained front end damage...Had it towed to a body shop, 2 weeks later I have a perfect front end with a motor thats shooting out white smoke and water out the exhaust pipes. Turns out the heads were damaged, blown head gasket and piston ring. MB wont warranty so I am forced to do my own rebuild.

Got more info
Got some more info....apparently there were 55's which could be ordered with the conversion in the middle east (probably UAE)....Basically a stock CLS55 with the 6.2 conversion but is tuned for 98-100 octane.
I was told they will bore the block locally and order the rest of the bottom end (crank included) from AMG...the ECU will be ordered as well then "flashed" for 91 octane.
I am still researching and contemplating....will follow up!

I spoke to Victor from VRP last week and was given a few options....I had initially decided to go the 5.7 route...
Till I received a great phone call this morning.....The service advisor said MB would warranty the work. They aint rebuilding, they're replacing it!

Great story and bail out from MB.
Why would MB drop and new engine in after an accident which can void the warranty?
I think we are not being told the whole story here.

The 6.2 info is directly from RB Tech....as I mentioned, thats what I was informed on.
All I can say is be polite and patient with your SA...take care of them and they'll return the favor.
