Getting Renntech mufflers installed this weekend

I am crossing my fingers and expect my Renntech mufflers to be in today. After much deliberation over how to modify my exhaust, I've seen nothing but the utmost praise for the Renntech mufflers. I still can't believe how much money I just spent on them, but hopefully its worth it. I will get pictures up this weekend and sound clips shortly after.

Lexal,
I'm glad you settled on the Renntech mufflers. Seems like you and I were the only one's researching the different mufflers for the past few months. I'm definitely sure we were the only one's trying to find an exhaust soundclip to no avail. Please post soundclips at various stages when you get an opportunity this weekend. I'm getting mine done next month. Congratulations brother. Taillights looks good. I'm definitely tinting my taillights. Post more pictures of your car from different angles. Thx

It sure did seem like we were the only two persisently looking for sound clips! I decided to bite the bullet and am sure I will be pleasantly surprised. I'm actually thinking about a lighter tint on the tail lights, I think they are too dark. Still debating it. I will get some pictures up soon though. I'm in the process of moving to another state, so I have that whole headache for the time being.

Thanks guys. Unfortunately they did not come in as planned. Hopefully they will be here Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

I think I'd be the first. Most non-AMG W211 owners use E55 mufflers. I'm doing it just for looks

Sorry for the derail, Lexaltezza! back on track...

By the way, the stealership is wanting to charge me about $450 for the install. Does that sound right to you guys? They, along with Renntech, claim its a 3-3.5 hour job. Honestly, to me it looks like a 1-1.5 hour job MAX.

$450 seems high for just the install. If you trust a local muffler shop, they should be able to do it for about half the price.

That's pretty high Lexal. I had a boutique high end tune shop give me a quote of $300.00 for install. I would ask for a discount. I usually do that at every stealership visit. They always give me a discount. Just ***** and whine a little. It works.

How much did you pay for the mufflers? Where did you order it?

I paid the retail $3495+shipping from Renntech. I'm definately going to try and get the service manager to lower the price. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to install these things!

I'm considering it. There are a few small shops nearby. I'm sure they'll be thinking what is a car like this doing here! My only concern is I want them to make perfect measurements before they cut the stock mufflers off. I don't want the tips too far in or too far out. I believe someone from the E63 board had his protrude out from the car too much and it looked way off. They must have not cut the stock mufflers far enough back.

I think if you find a good muffler shop, they'd do a better job than the dealer since they do exhausts all day.

Go to a muffler shop. Much much cheaper and that's all they do , install mufflers. Also while you are at it install the X-Pipe you will love the tone. The X-Pipe fine tunes the sound. I have both installed. Ask MBFOREVER (mo) he's heard mine at the track. They look so good you just hate to install them.

I say drop the 3 bills at the stealershop and let them be liable for any mistakes made. Lexal, you paid $3500.00 man, what's a few extra to make sure they do it right? When I got my resonator deleted, the local muffler shop boys looked at me like whatta you doing here with a car like that? He actually tried to increase the job after he saw the car and realize what he was going to be working on. You know what I mean?

What would be the difference in sound vs straight pipes? I already replaced with straights and would hate to have X pipes replace those without knowing what the difference would be? Advise?

That price is way too high!!! I agree with the others, local muffler shop all the way. As stated before, the muffler shops will probably do a better job if possible... In the end, its just a muffler install...shouldnt be that much of a risk...

I had the straight pipes first. To me sounded like old school hot rod
(Boat sounding) Now with the X-Pipe in place sounds like a fine tuned high performance super German race car. Like I saiD before the X-pipe fine tunes the note Just my 2cents BUT I AM VERY VERY PICKY!

I just wanted to confirm how good Rick's car sounds. I've heard it at idle, under hard acceleration going down the track, and at constant cruise, and I can honestly say that Rick's car sounded unbelievably exotic. It was very aggressive yet very unique. It was loud but not too loud. The best part is when you hear it roar down the track I have plans to purchase these mufflers for my car in the future.....
