HELP!!! cls 63 amg vs 997 turbo

Hello everyone,
just thought I could get some help from you guys. I have recently purchased a cls 63 amg, and have been drag racing a bit. A friend of a friend in a 997 turbo wants to race me. Both cars are stock. I know that according to the official data 911 is a stronger car 0-60, however the driver is an "old" man and is not really a racer. It would be really helpfull to hear your houghts whether I hold a chance in this race. Thanks.

pics?

Anything can happen , the AWD P car actually has many advantages BUT the AMG cars are easy to drive and will suprise.

Light to light the cars are close he would need to screw up on a shift point for you to "win" . I know my car hung with one a new 997 TT but I was also murdered by a 996 TT that was chipped. If bone stock and brand new with inexperienced pilot you have a chance....

If he has a tiptronic...I don't believe you will have a chance. Sorry...those are faster by a few tenths to 60 then the 6-speeds.

If he's driving an auto, your only chance will be if you got a perfect launch and he messed up. Dont put any money down.

Yeah it all depends...I dont think age will be a huge factor, however, if he has tip u are screwed... if he has manuel, u might be ok depending on his driving skills

Make it a requirement that you have to carry two adults in the backseats plus two sets of golf clubs in the respective cars during the race

While the CLS 63 is a beast, you are dealing with an AWD Tip 997TT that is about 500-700 lbs (??) lighter. I don't like your chances very much......I think you have the nicer looking car BTW

even if he's tip, if he doesn't powerbrake correctly at launch you'll destroy him. How do I know this? I have a CLS63 and I've raced my old man in his stock 997tt tip. He ran 11.67 at Moroso, but mid 12's if he doesn't powerbrake. It's a cow off the line without full powerbraking.

He was in town for fathers day and I drove it again, I'm used to my 997tt (700hp) so his felt slooow, the 63 feels faster IMO, it's just that power brake launch that's incredible.

A 911 GT2 can barely beat a 997TT over 0-60....... AWD helps the Turbo launch very well.

if he doesn't powerbrake the car, and it launches with lag, forget it - the CLS comes out of the hole hard. The 997tt Tips amazing 0-60 times are only when the car is powerbraked to build boost before letting off the brake. The 997tt would eventually catch up, but by that time you're going pretty fast.

The overboost function is turned on by pressing the Sport button, it's an extra few pounds of boost, and gives an additional 50 horse I believe for a few seconds at a time during heavy acceleration.

If you want to beat him, don't tell him about powerbraking...
Otherwise the car is like a leapfrog off the line, it's nuts! 0-30 is some of the hardest pulling I've ever felt.

Arrow Your launch...

So how are you going to launch...in M or S mode? With traction control on or off? Suspension on Sport II, Sport I or off ?

I launch in S mode suspension in sport II with esp on, I use performance box to time my 0-60 and seem to get the best times this way, please correct me if I am doing something wrong I also use powerbraking up to about 1000-1200 rpm

The only thing I have seen in videos on the net when drag racing, but not had the chance to try myself, is to have the suspension in comfort mode !!!

The guy driving the car states that it help keep the wheels stuck to the ground so not to have as much wheel-hopping.

If anyone has tried this...please give us your input.

I use comfort mode, it lets the rear squat and puts more weight on the rear tires, thus more traction. And I don't powerbrake it on the street either, just a smooth push on the pedal.
