HELP! Tinting questions?
Hey guys,
I'm getting my car tinted tomorrow at LA tint and need some advice. Is there anything I need to know ahead of time before the install? I have a black CLS55 AMG and I'm getting the formula one ceramic tint-35% all around. I read somewhere that I should ask for felt strips or moleskin? What the heck is that? Is the formula one ceramic film a good quality film? How does it compare with the huper optic ceramic? Please help before I screw up! Thanks in advance.

Formula One is an excellent ceramic tint. Compared to Huper Optik, it's easier to install b/c Huper Optik is a thick tint. I was told this from a dealer that switched from Huper Optik to Formula One. I believe the felt strip is the part that prevents the tint from being scratched.

I actually ran into one of your old post a few minutes ago and you highly recommended LA tint in Sterling. Matter of fact, that's where I'm having the tint done. How do you know of the shop? Thought you were out in Cali? Thanks for responding.

Well heres the thing...35% with HO doesnt IMO give you as much privacy as the other brands of film, this may be due to the "shiny" look the film gives rather then the "dark" or black the typical tint films show (hope that makes sense)
...so if you're looking for something that gives some privacy aka not that easy to see inside then go for something other then the HO
..regarding the moleskin, as vegas said, it can be installed so that your tint doesnt get scratched by the inside seals of the windows, honestly it's a small cost for a piece of mind...each their own

I used to work in McLean, VA in 2005 and went to LA Tint to get my 545i tinted.

I have Formula One Ceramic Tint on my CLS. Excellent product! I have had over 23 of my cars tinted with Formula One products by Sundown Window Tinting in Riverside CA in the past 20 years without complaint.

Ok guys. I just had it put on. Looks beautiful. 35% all around. Came out to $350.00. New wheels this week, new tint today and I'm having the Renntech ELM installed this week. Need clear side markers and I'm done for awhile until I can find a Quaife LSD. Thanks Vegas for your input.
