It's probably a scam. He mentioned not to email him at the address he provided to autotrader.com and did not even listed his number. There were several other CLS for around the same price on autotrader.com and it also said not to email them at the email address provided to autotrader.com

What pisses me off is that even when you email autotrader about these scams, they don't take them down. Cars.com is much better about keeping this crud off their site. It is rampant on autotrader, particularly in the Mercedes (and probably the BMW as well, but I honestly don't look there very much

Another one on there turned out to be a leased car that the owner was deceptively trying to pass off as a sale by stating "assume my note", making no mention of the fact that the vehicle was leased...and again, when I emailed autotrader about it, they didn't remove the ad.
Bottom line is, if someone's trying to sell a premium automobile at five digits below its wholesale price, it's either a scam, or a salvage/weld job, flood car, etc...

I believe we saw the same vehicle on craigslist yesterday, CLS55 for 20k when we called to inspect he stated the car was sold. So i'd guess this is complete BS and a scam.

why are people doing this?
are they expecting people to pay him with "western union" or paypal without inspecting the car at first?

It's a definite scam! He stole those pictures from park place motorcars in forth worth. I saw that exact car in person in fort worth and remember those pictures from their site. It was still available at the dealership less than a month ago. They were asking 66k. Exact same car.

Actually I have heard of these scam recently, Seller post a price that is extremely cheap and ask the buyer to quickly go and put a downpayment to hold the car. He gives you a address or a location that you will travel to, but they will have someone rob you before you get there with your cash deposit. it was actually on the news several months ago....
people travel far these days for a good deal, imgaine if you are coming from a different location or area, even state, you would never expect to get gun point and ask to give up your cash deposit.
