My lease is ending soon my G35 Coupe and I have started to research options but I am held to a tight budget. What do you think I can offer, especially when our family has a history with this dealership and salesman?

No distronic
No performance package
No keyless go
No auto trunk
No phone
No Sirius
No Xenon
True 2006 or 2005?
Looks pretty bare bones (base + premium package), plus it's black. The one real "option" that affects the value is the Nav, which in this car sucks. It's almost like not even having the option... my iPhone is better.
There can be a lot of variations with the black due to owner care. Have you looked at this one in person?
They need to come way down on that price. I'm thinking $46k

I would think low $50's is going to be as low as you will go on this one...CLS500's with as many or more miles are in the mid 40's CPO'd...also, I would ask to see the VMI on the car to see what kind of service history it has...good luck with your purchase.

No dice, too much. Get a car from somewhere else. Loaded CLS55's out there for much better. Do some more homework.

And chicka.
CPO really doesn't mean much in this economic climate. These dealers REALLY want these cars off their lots. If they are gonna sell NEW cars, they gotta sell the trade-ins and lease returns or find room. They take a hit if it goes to auction.
Keep looking, they are EVERYWHERE.

A salesman at Ray Catena told me that CPO will add a bit to the price of the car. Not sure how valid that is
This is my first time even considering a used car so this is all new territory for me and I appreciate the guidance

You can still get good deals on CPOs right now, but they're not going to match the lowball prices you find on fleabay.

I told you low 50's would buy that car. I hate to say it, but you cannot always go by what others have paid for theirs. Different area's and conditions on cars make all difference in the actual price. Also, do not be misled on the CPO bit. To ADD a CPO warranty, it will cost more b/c the dealership has to pay to have it CPO'd, not to mention fix anything that does not pass the CPO specifications. I am sure there are others out there at a possibly lower price. I saw one on Manheim yesterday with 35k miles for $37k, only problem was it had been in an accident. Again, good luck with your purchase and I would tell your salesman to split the difference and I would think you should have a deal .

Who cares about CPO... buy DC warranty...
There are beter deals out there... but a loaded car is a hard find right now...
It seems as though these cars are selling as fast as they are advertised at these low prices now...maybe people are seeing the light on the bargains

don't know the CLS market, but 07 S550s fully loaded and CPOs can be had for $55k in SF bay area - i'd guess lower in other areas of the country. for most dealers, especially if they'e had the car for more than 60 days, they're already losing money on their initial cost. therefore, their only question is how badly do they want to cut their losses to move on. after all, they're better off taking the $55k and buying 3 lease return 2006 E350's for $17k from MB credit, and making $5k per car w/ less hassle and risk. plus, MB dealers know 2 more weeks and blue book/edmunds used car value will drop another several thousand dollars...and for sure not going up.
good luck.
p.s. i'd personally wait for more lease returns to come up. CLS shouldn't be much more than E class on residuals when all's said and done - and the % drop should be similar to S. i'd say wait for CLS55 or CLS500.

Thanks Patrick. I will be waiting until April 2009 to make my search and deal more imminent and within striking distance. I appreciate the help here and look forward to owning one of these fine beauties soon...

So, I have been searching for one of these hot cars myself and finally found one.
2006 CLS 55
18,000 miles
Fully loaded minus the 030 package
What would you pay for it?
It is not a CPO car.

First of all, There is no real difference in price of the CPO vs. private sales once the deals close (I have this information b/c it was used as a base value when my car was totaled). If you say differently, please show me the evidence, b/c I have documents that contradict that.
I've bought TWO CLS55's in the last 3/4 months.
I bought a semi-loaded 2006 (actually 2005) CLS55 w/ 9k for $55k in August. Regretted paying that much after I watched the markets carefully. Shouldn't have paid over $50k for that car.
That car was totaled 11/19/08 (not my fault).
I bought my loaded (everything but distronic, but ya know I don't use cruise control) & IMMACULATE (true 2006) 030 CPO, 29k mi, for $56k last monday from a Mercedes dealership.
And this is SOCAL. They are selling for a lot more here than the national average.
I've had my eyes on the market for months now. I don't know if someone who has purchased TWO CLS55's within 3/4 MONTHS has any informational value to anyone, but I'm just telling you what I've learned.
Think about it - it's THEIR JOB TO GET YOU TO PAY AS MUCH AS THEY CAN. Otherwise, they wouldn't have a job at MERCEDES. I guess it's just a matter of whether or not they think you're a sell ( they can see the twinkle in your eyes ), and whether they know you mean business about walking out.
I got the car I wanted at the price I wanted b/c I did my homework the 2nd time around. And I walked away from a lot of pretty cars.
If you're willing to pay in the 50's, wait for a car with more options.
I just don't want anyone here to get rolled.

So on your original you paid 55 and because it wasn't loaded you felt it to be too high? The new one your driving is loaded but you paid 56k so your okay with that?
How much is the 030 package worth over the loaded car price?
Just making sure I read the reply correctly.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I've been tossing around the idea of letting go of my car. It's an 06 CLS55 w/030 package, loaded w/all options except distronic. It's CPO till 100K miles, bought it in late April of this year. Car has 26950 miles and it's immaculate, bone stock with a few mods (painted red calipers, blacked out grill, clear turn signals, HID 8K lights with 8K fog, lowered, Euro Command and CF lip from Eurotek).

been reading this thread on CLS55...and i noticed this ad.
looks pretty good, although i'm not a big fan of the CLS because personally i think the roof's too low and it's difficult to get in/out, especially the rear seat.
that said, this car looks pretty loaded.
