GB: CLS AMG Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser
hi im just trying to see if there is any interest for a CF rear diffuser on cls amg cars. i recently just got approval to make this post.
some of us in the vancouver area just had a car meet recently and one of the people that attended told me that he makes a lot of carbon fiber parts for porsche cars.
i asked him if he could make me a carbon fiber rear diffuser for my CLS AMG vehicle as i have been looking for one for a while but the only ones i have been able to find were for the E AMG cars.
he said that if i can get about 5 to 10 people together then it would be worthwhile to do and the cost would be around 500 dollars. if i just had one made for myself then it would be triple the price or more.
he also just notified me that a cheaper way would be to make a CF cover that we could place over our stock diffuser. that one should be around 350 and would not require us removing our stock diffuser.
let me know what u guys think and maybe we can make this happen.
cheers!

well it would look just like our black plastic rear diffuser but in CF.
i will ask him if he can do some sketches but basically he will need to get an oem rear diffuser then make a mold out of it. im going to see if its easy to remove mine and then perhaps he can use that piece to make the mold.
ill also ask him for some pic of pieces that he has already made for other cars.

pay a lot of attention, it is strongly glued: I tried myself and gave up.. let it do to a shop and received back the car with a diffuser I didn't like as I wrote here under "Mirror"

you'd better buy one new plastic piece: only apparently it is an easy straight stripe but its shape is indeed curved on all 3 dimensions

sorry, I wouldn't want be negative ..
IMHO, point is this:
if for whatever reason the original plastic diffuser has a slightly different arch (maybe curving .. don't know how to translate correctly), when you attach it there's no problem: plastic is flexible and it will adapt correctly.
unfortunately, Cf is NOT FLEXIBLE !
further, this is in principle an easy part but unfortunately it does not stands free: it is surrounded by the bumper shape all around ( this is not for example, for a lip spoiler that stands free in the air ..)
conclusion: need to make one piece, then check if fit is correct on a real car and after that you can even make a mass production
ps: ... to late: I should have made some copies of my diff before installing it.
one more business lost !

the sample doesnt exist yet and in order to get one made for a reasonable price we need the GB. ill see if i can work something out but i personally dont want to shell out 1500 or more to have one if i cant get enough people to commit to this

I hear ya, but if you wait for other people to get this done you might be waiting for a long time. I thought that this mod was already available ? I've seen this product on eBay several times.

I can find out if Car Nutz Customz is willing to produce more of these diffusers. The one they made for my car is a full carbon fiber replacement. All the R&D has already been done.

I think it only made sense to get the CF diffuser if it has fins... sort of like the BlackseriesCLK look... I was even considering buying a CLKBlackseries rear diffuser and have a shop fit it to the cls rear...
CLS with fins will look amazing...

I studied this possibility and also organised with the dealer to take sizes from CL and CLK carbon diffusers which are similar enough. ... but not 100%
.. there are old posts from mine somewhere here ..
unfortunately I found out it was a really difficult job without a business perspective and, in any case, you should have cut your bumper

Hi, I'm fairly new to the fourm but have a keen interest in this topic. My business in the Uk is mainly product design and development and i have completed a lot of custom work for motorsport. We have a portable laser scanner which we use to scan the OEM car and then in this case for example, I would scan a rep C63 ( as they are not too dear and pretty good), or the CL63 diffuser which I have access to. Some careful CAD work and you would have a perfect fitment diffuser with fins. We then normal have a prototype made and a mould formed which can create >500 parts. If i find a little time I am going to make a start on this and will keep you posted.

Good show mate, keep us posted! If definately in.
Does anyone know the part # for the CF Diffuser/Rear Apron from AMG Performance Studio on the CLS63. Any clue if it will fit the CLS55 PP0303 Rear or will it need mods?

Sorry but had a quick look under the back end, how is the OEM bumper and apron assembled? Is the standard black insert and coloured coded portion below one part fixed into the bumper? or does the painted lower part need cut from the bumper? sorry if this has already been answered! Anyone any pics of a inset off, or bumper off a car?
This should help.

It has to remain the same overall size as whats coming out, thats why the renntech add on type does not work in my opinion but i think the CL type is def the way to go

Here we go. I hope these help. As you can see the rear color coded strip is a one piece with the black unpainted diffuser/apron. You can make that out by looking at the pics with the yellow part visible. It does seem it is quite easy to remove and replace the whole piece.

So are we saying that the rear bumper is one piece, ie inicludes the section below the apron, and the apron is simply pushed onto this , therfore the new diffuser with CL style fins will need mid section removed to tie inn with the bumper lines. Does anyone have any pics of the apron removed?

I think a nicely finished CF cover is a better option. Should be easy to do and cheap as well. This will cover the unpainted part only. The color coded part will still be visible.
