Help CLS55 AMG or M5??

OK so i need help i posted this awhile ago on e60.net and got mixed opinions most were biased to the m5 obviously so im very closeto making my decision so i'll post the same thinghere...
thread started back in OCT2008
(I know this is not the best place to post this question since the answers may swing with M5 but here it is.
In the next couple weeks I will be in the market for either of these machines just wondering how many of you have or would consider a cls55amg over or with the M5. Or if any of you guys maybe have owned a cls55 or know of any one that has 1.
I like both cars considerably alot. As a current owner of an E60 i kind of want to try something else besides just a new body and a monster engine.. i know the M5 is a beast iv'e driven one before but wondering if the cls 55 is far behind as a consideration for most.. I like how the cls looks lowerd with staggerd wheels which is what id do and the possibility of upgrading it with a chip ect to produce more power superchareged. Any suggestions with comments to back them up would be greatly appreciate it... pls try not to just write M5 hands down... looking for a little more technicalities between both machines... thanks in advance...)

here's the link to that thread incase anyone wants to see it..

06 CLS55 AMG
All responses on this forum will be biased towards the cls. I was also looking for a m5 to replace my 745li , went with the cls instead.

For me it's as simple as park them next to each other. The m5 gets lost in a crowd of cars, the cls does not.

While you may be able to distinguish a real m5 (from other 5's), it still doesnt IMHO have the curb appeal of the CLS.

While i can appreciate the v10 engine of the m5, i believe it lacks the jaw dropping appearance/effect from onlookers that you will see when driving the cls.

It all depends on what you want in a car.

Why do you think we would write " m5 hands down"? This is a Mercedes CLS forum bro. We love our cars!

I think most people here would recommend the cls.

Good luck with your choice, because this is a great time to buy!

CLS55 plus a few Ducati's
Sure we may be biased towards the CLS but honestly, the M5 looks like a regular car. The CLS is simply a design masterpiece. Interior of the CLS is also a whole different visual experience also, for the better in my opinion.
OK from a performance and handling point of view the cars are probably most likely to be seperated by their drivers more than anything.
If I was in a CLS on the freeway and an M5 went by the other way, I wouldn't really turn my head and say wow. If I was in an M5 and a CLS went the other way I would notice the look of the car for sure.... wow!

all i did was simply copy and paste my thread from the BMW forum thats what i wrote there... i know here it will likely be cls hands down... but surprisingly in my poll in that thread there were many who chose the CLS even on a bmw forum go figure.. im still leaning more on the merc side of things...

m5's are awsome, but like hondas no torque. cls55 is way moore mod friendly. a flash on a cls55 will do wonders as opposed to a m5 wich is stuggleing to get moore power. still awsome car though.

I drove the M5 last Friday and to be honest didnt like it at all. The gear shifts were way too jerky and it didnt really feel that fast to me. The positive thing about the car is the handling, it is very responsive. Over all though i personally prefer the CLS. It definitely looks better inside and out, sounds better, and it was more fun test driving it then the M5.

I think you just coined it. The CLS, no matter the NA or AMG version has more curb appeal than the 5 series. That "lost in the crowd" feeling is dead on with the 5 series.

The BMW is very ugly. A CLS55 lowered with a set of deep dish wheels is a game changer.
