I am currently in the process of looking for a new car. I was looking into these two cars and just want to get some opinions on what you guys think. Thanks!

Basically the same car so pick whichever one you like the look of. If you need space in back then get the E. CLS is a little heavier but handles a little better.

Between the two I'd take the E but posting in the CLS forum you'll get a lot more votes for that.

CLS55
My opinion is they are not the same car, they share many parts, but a totally different beast.
The CLS55 is actually lighter and stiffer than its E55 relative while having a wider track and longer wheelbase. The CLS63 is a bit heavier than its E63 cousin.
The difference's are in the interior, a totally different feel and vision, a lot more room in the E class while the CLS is more like a cockpit.
You have to drive them both... both equally awesome cars.

I beg to differ that there is "a lot more room in the E".

My colleague has a 2007 E550, and I have 2007 CLS63.

Sitting in the front seat, I have the impression that there is more space in the front of my car than his E. I feel more comfortable sitting in either the drivers seat, or the passenger seat in my car vs. his E.

In the back, yes only two people sit in the CLS vs. the E, but the three adults in the back of the E are cramped. In the CLS, four 6 foot adults sit very comfortably. I have had no complaints from big people in the back of my CLS. In fact, the remark I usually get is, "this isn't as bad as I thought it would be".

If you look at the tech specs, the CLS is the bigger car. Trunk is huge, very practical.

Talking

Depends on the look your after… (In my opin.) E is more old school. The CLS is more modern and looks fast just sitting there. It’s an absolute blast to drive. The power, handling, looks and the stars it generates are exuberating!
I get compliments all time.
Best car I have had to date.
You will not go wrong with this car.

a car that gets very poor gas mileage.
Whew! Been over a year.
Anyway, with the release of the C218, get your CLS63 C219 now. Prices should be better than last year.
Pass on the E class, for now.
