Buying CLS55 or cCLS63

Planning to buy a used '06 CLS55 or '07 CLS63...anything I should be looking for during the test drive? In Canada they are going for about $65K with about 30K miles at a Benz dealer. How much should I offer for them? Does anyone have a pdf of the brochure for the cars. THANKS

If you shop hard, clean '06's with 30-45K are going for about 35-39k at auction...that should give you an idea on cost base on any particular CLS55. I actually like the torque in the 55's better than the HP in the 63's...in the market as we speak myself...had one lined up, but after we put it up on the lift, we saw some rear quarter panel damage and work...

i love the 55 simply because of the supercharger and the fact that the 55k platform was and still seems to be one of the most stable platforms ever created. not taking away from the 63 which is still a great car - i love the forced induction and general flexibility of the 55k. if u plan on modding - 55k is the right fit. if u plan on just keeping it stock - perhaps 63 is a better fit

I went through this same debate with myself a year ago.

The Supercharged CLS55 won the day. I could get 63's at the same price, comparably equipped (sans 030) but in the end, IMO the 55's are just going to be the more highly coveted car. And you can turn them into real monsters easily if you desire.

The CLS 55's short existence also made it much more collectible. If you could call a car that. I'd wager there's already more 63's on the road. Rare is cool.

65k sounds high to me for those cars. Unless there is some kind of canadian tax i dont' know about on cars, i'd say 65k is overpaying by a good amount. I saw a CPO 07 63 locally for $57k with 14k miles. There is a thread on comparing the two. if you are going to mod the car, get the 55 and if you dont' care to mod, probably the 63 is better.

55 had the SBC brakes that people complain about (has a tendency to break and is costly to fix.) Also seems like there are a lot of issues with people having to repair the IC pump and SC clutch. (which seems to be a headache cause it doesn't throw codes.)

For me i just wanted to newer model year and like the NA engine and didn't plan on doing any serious modding. Plus I picked it up for right around where I could get a '06 55 so it made sense for me.

yes, less 63's on the road.

Numbers for 2009 available in May, so we will see if numbers continue to dwindle down.

Interesting ... does that mean no one wants the 63's ? I'd be curious to see 2009 and 2010 numbers.

Either way ... the CLS 55 was short lived at 1 year vs 4 going on ... , not because it isn't a great motor, just because the new motor was available.

Hell ... they're both great. So no offense was meant by my comment.

Interesting ... Thanks.

I guess there's really a couple ways you could interpret those numbers.

Justpete,

There are more E's. Seems as you go up the line, the numbers are less.

1 OUT OF 11 with my build. Had two dealers check this information before I bought it.

07 CLS 63 AMG Designo graphite with black interior but with taupe seats and door panels. piano wood P03 package. fully loaded distronic the works... I didn't want the SC car due to the same issues others have said. plus I like the NA motor. The first NA built by AMG
