will the v12 fit along with the 5speed tranny? It'd be great since you'll be rid of that jerky 7speed...

you would be putting the 5speed tranny in. just like in the brabus rocket.
tho you would have to do some mods the mounts and everything else.

As much fun as this may be, it will end up being a huge hole in which to throw allot money. I am in the tuning business and I think that there are better ways to spend money. It's about cost/benefit ratio. But if you have your heart set..... and have a big pile of money...

to the OP, the 63 comes with a 7 speed tranny. the 600/65 came with the 5 speed just as with the 55 supercharged engines. the reason for this is the 5 speed is able to handle the massive torque of the 600/65 engines. you would have to change out the transmission as well or somehow reprogram the 7. kleemann used to offer tranny modification programing for M113 500 engines that would be supercharged that had the 7 speed to handle the power or something.

Why are you doing this to a 63 instead of a 500 or a very very high mileage 55??

This past Sunday I talked to a local MB performance shop about putting a 65 engine and supporting peripherals in the CLS55. He told me ballpark about $60K turnkey to do it right.

that's nuts. would be easier in a 55 than a 63 since tranny has to be changed (7 speed won't handle the torque).

Both engines 65/600 are great engines. I would say do a 65 swap If you can. Remember you would need the respected ECU/TCU from the 65 or 600. The wiring harness, and a 5 speed transmission. It would be one heck of a build. You will find yourself becoming best friends with the MBZ parts dept. However if that doesnt stop you. You could really have something special in the end. I mean something I would expect to see at Barrett Jackson here in AZ.

you guys are nuts lol

would the 12 cylinder fit in the CLS hood since it is designed for V6/V8 engines vs the S/CL/SL are designed for V6/V8/V12?

why not just mod the engine with kleemann kits or something?

Forgive me for being the devil's advocate here

just do it. it'll be less than 60k if you keep it relatively 'standard'. 60k+ seems right if you want to go nutty with redoing the heads/block and custom tuning.

15-20k for a 600 engine/tranny
2-5k for electronics (if you didn't already get it from the donor car).
2-5k for a stronger drivetrain/differential

good to go...and you can sell that POS 63 motor to me.

lol i'd rather keep the 55 motor than get a 63. i love torque (and the 5 speed more than the 7)

It seems we have some rather ambitious individuals here... I for one, considering the high costs involved, couldn't rightfully justify such a project / mod. I mean it would be one thing if you're a tuner like Brabus, but as an individual on the consumer end of things, it's definitely a huge and costly undertaking. I personally also don't know if the gains in the end would be as satisfying, knowing outright the amount of $$$ and time that has been exhausted in the whole venture.

A better project would be to bi-turbo the 63 engine.... thats a monster. Brabus did it and it really performs.

Brabus' turbo setup sucks on the ML. Other than being a cast manifold...the manifold only covers 6 of the 8 ports. Naturally they have to worry about reliability and emissions nonsense.

while 'neat', it certainly isn't a "monster".

Not trying to be ghetto but this day and age find someone trying to dump their 65 and swap the motor. Why would anyone in their right mind spend that much money to buy a motor that alot of people are trying to get rid of. Street smarts are good to a certain extent.
