Auxiliary battery questions

Hi guys. I have a few questions about the auxiliary battery.

1. What is the common life span of this battery?

2. While connecting a battery tender to the main battery in the trunk, will the auxiliary battery get the same charge? Or do I need to connect another battery tender to that one as well?

3. If I disconnect this battery to upgrade it, will anything be erased from the cars system?

4. Is the auxiliary battery in the CLS500 different from the CLS55 ?

I am thinking about changing this battery since its 5 years old now. Thanks for your help in advance

shorter than the main battery if the car stays un-used for long. see #2
2. While connecting a battery tender to the main battery in the trunk, will the auxiliary battery get the same charge? NO, it wont because it's normal state is "disconnected" by means of a specific relais underhood.Or do I need to connect another battery tender to that one as well?

guess not

that's always good because all batteries have a life-cycle pattern and even if they are correctly used and maintained their effective capacity diminishes about 4%/year. therefore, even if your old battery shows good voltage reading its actual capacity will hardly be more than 80% from new.

it's all what I know ..

Above the blue windshield washer fluid cap, remove the black plastic cover. Then unscrew the plastic nut holding down the cabin filter. Pull up filter housing and you will see the small battery that looks just like a motorcycle battery.

btw .. I just made a battery pack, with similarly size of our Aux, that is able to start the car

to date I tested it only for starting my historical audi V8 ..

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

it was able to run its stereo (not big system, but 3 amplifiers) with car off for 2 hours

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

ps: Lithium inside

Cls 350
Auxiliary battery

I want to replace an auxiliary battery of a 2006 Mercedes Benz Cls 350. The question is, is the car going to loose presettings and programings such that it wont start after putting in a new battery?
