2006 CLS AMG - fog light cornering feature not available- 350 or 500 only

In my manual it says the active cornering bi-xenon lights do not use the side illumination from the fog lights in the AMG model, when you turn. This strikes me as being odd, as usually the more expensive the model, the more features added. Yesterday I saw a CLK 55 AMG (also 2006) that had guess what....fog lights that lit up on the turn.

Why would MB delete this feature from the CLS AMG - yet implement it on the CLK AMG ? Anyone have any thoughts ? Can it be activated, for example with the STAR computer?

Thanks for any replies

I have this cornering illumination option in my CLS 500. The foglight lights up according to the direction of the steering wheel left/right. Is that what you mean?

Yes. That's exactly what I mean. The bi-xenons in the 55 amg don't light up the fog light on the turning side like yours do.

Yet they light up on the clk amg

You can rectify the setting in your configuration. For your information, if you upgrade your OEM yellow foglights to proper led bulbs, this cornering option will desactivate automatically until you go back to reconfigure it back to the way it was before the led foglight upgrade. This is what happened to my cornering lights after an upgrade and i went back to the menu setting and got my option back to the way it was. Hope this helps!

The worst thing is that this cornering illumination option is rampant in other brands like Volkswagen Golf or Skoda. I saw a Golf TDI 2009 model this morning equipped with this option and i was like !

Cant turn it on with star under the driver and passenger front SAMs. Car's with bi-xenon/curve illumination have this disabled by default because the low beam projectors turn with the steering wheel and I for one find that more effective than having my fog lamp hid's turn on with the slightest move of the steering wheel.

Well I had mine turned on for awhile and I do have BI xenons.
The only reason I tuned them off is when I went to HID's.

Thanks guys for the advice. My car is with MB today to service and check the transmission. I have asked them to take a look with the computer to see if its possible, I will post what they said to close this question out.

Thanks again for the input

I don't know why some people on here don't bother to report back the outcome of their issue. Was it resolved or not? Atleast, it can help others who have similar issue.

Nope, doesn't work if you have the AMG bumper and the associated round foglights. Specifically mentions it in the sales literature for both the AMG and the optional AMG bodykit.

I have the bi-xenon in my CLS 55 AND the foglights who light up according to the direction of the steering wheel left/right (but that works only at very low speed).

I have Stock lamps in front.

Not sure but I should have asked the dealer to activate that fog turning function back in the time.
in any case, if that activation was done, it was done via a non-developer DAS.
