They are Soooooo much fun. I got into that whole thing years ago w/ a good friend of mine. He ended up going into the whole nitro helicopter thing and very quickly learned that each split second mistake would result in a $500 crash. Nitro helicopters are a ton of fun but very expensive. Electric, small scale is the most amt of fun for the money out there.
I still have a number of nitro and electric cars. Haven't touched them in years. Those are a ton of fun too but can get expensive - quick.

Have you folks gotten into mounting camera on the heli or plane and control them from the 1st person view? Also looking around via the camera.

Hyperion - That sounds all well and good - but nitro and high end electrics are NOT for children.
I dated a girl a number of years ago who had 3 children. I let her 16 yr old have a run w/ my nitro 4wd truck after a few minutes of instruction. The radio (control) was in his hands no longer than 5ish seconds and he managed to shatter it at 30 (ish) mph into a telephone pole then the back of my first benz. Thankfully no damage to the benz but about 200 dollars to my truck. Lesson learned : NOT for kids.

Ammar, yeah no kidding! Should have known better. Anyway - yeah they take nitromethane. The motors are actually freaking amazing. Since they are so small and 2-stroke - some motors redline at 30,000RPM!!! Absolute music to your ears. I would love to get back into it but honestly - it's just a pain in the as$.
CoolCamden - BEAUTIFUL Nova!! I'm actually half shopping for either a Nova or GTO in that year range. Honestly, the keywords I use on ebay are 'Tubbed' and 'Blown'. Whatever I get next - going to have wheelie bars on the back. And going to need a lift as well. I'm out of space in the garage but want more variety in my toy collection.

I'd recommend a Savage 25 truck by HPI. Cheaper and pretty resilient. Everyone has preferences and I guess that's mine. I'd say a complete (used) setup for a couple hundred on ebay. PM me if you're serious and I can give you a rundown of what you'll need but honestly I'd just go w/ a 'real' electric if you want to get into the r/c thing. Nitro is kind of... complicated and expensive. And yes - 30,000 RPM and 3 gear tranny (2 forward, 1 reverse).
