2006 CLS55 or 2007 CLS63 ( new thread 2012 )
Hi guys! Im new to MB.
I recently lost my 545i BMW in hurricane SANDY and i am looking to get a used CLS.
From what i know there is not a lot of differences between 2 cars one has more Hp the other one got more torque the main thing im concerned is the reliability of transmission i owned 2 cars accord and bimmer both had transmission replaced idk. may be the style of my driving is what killed it, but i love to push my car to its limits almost everyday. I live in Brooklyn NY so im doing mostly city driving.Wont do alot of modding for now since im going to be broke for a while if im getting one.
30K is probably is the most im going to spend. IDK guys this really a big question for me right now i always wanted the 55 but since the 63 is newer witch one should i get ?
thanks!

More and more I'm leaning forwards the 55 I just read that 63s eat lil bit more gas then the 55. Any one has something to confirm this information? Thanks

This has been discussed over a few other threads.
If you are really not going to mod, then I would go with CLS63 as the normally aspirated engine has an unparalleled tenor voice that the 55 can't come close to.
If you are an addict of always more hp, then the 55 is your choice as it is much easier and cheaper to increase power.

55 all the way. More torque, more modable, cheaper. As to the hp, all stock 55s dyno 420-430 at the wheels putting them at 500 crank... The 469hp was just a marketing stragety to get buyers into the more expensive SL and S classes with the true 500hp even though the motors have the same power levels on the dynos

Very much so. The 55 is a tank of a motor and the only issues I've come across are with heavily modded ones leaning out at max rpm and boost. The 63s on the other hand have had their fair share of problems. I wouldn't call them unreliable, but I definitely think the nod for reliability goes to the 55 as far as the power train is concerned

My CLS55 with Renntech Stage5 package gets about 15/22mpg on crap Arizona 91 octane. Not too shabby for a two ton car with about 500 rwhp. The clutch-actuated supercharger is a beautiful thing! I think the n/a 6.2L models get 14/20mpg at best. The biturbo 5.4L m157 is better but only available in the 2012+ models.
My preference in a used W219 would be 2009-2011 CLS63 > 2006 CLS55 > 2007-8 CLS63.
Also the 5spd auto in the CLS55 is awesome, handles much more torque than the 7spd and seems to be very reliable.

If you do all city, you will see low teens even single digits but I drive back from DC to NJ a lot and I get 25-27MPG on highway. Yes, both suck on gas lol
