Talking Thinking About Buying My 1st Amg

Hey All Happy New Year!
I'm thinking about buying a used CLS 63 (07-08) I wanted some feed back from you guys on things to look out for with these. I know it drinks gas some what but I can deal with that. I would consider a CLS 55 with low miles but either way I go I don't want one with anything higher then 80k and no more then 2 owners. And yes I most definitely will be getting a extended warranty, I got a quote from car Chex for about $5000....Bumper to Bumper so I guess that's not to bad. Since I'm more then likely paying cash I want to keep under $25k. And it will be my daily driver so I need some feed back on issues or any words of wisdom you can offer. Like if it has the 030 package do I have to replace the rotors with the 2pc? or I can I go with a 1pc rotor? Cause if I have to spend anywhere close to $3000 on a break job I'm buying another Lexus Lol...I appreciate any help, Thanks in advance!

Condition is far more important than miles. I prefer the 55 because of all the power potential for the motor. These cars don't wear out around 150k like a Chevy. My CLS55 is in nearly showroom condition at 105k, and my ML320 is mechanically sound, and runs perfect at 300k.

That being said, there is a lot of expensive maintenance to be done on a CLS. If you can't work on it, the warranty will more than pay for itself. This is a $100,000 car when you go to buy spark plugs, tires, suspension parts. If you can afford it, it's sooo worth it. By the way, those 030 brakes are significantly better, and worth the price. I've had both.
If you want to save money buy a lexus. If you want a car that makes you grin like an idiot, step up to the pay window.

I'm definitely looking for a huge smile on my face when I step on the gas! So I guess I should look for one with out the 030 package, Thanks for the insight!

Do more research, there is no power advantage in the performance package. Same engine. Minor upgrades will add 100hp to a 55. The brakes are the only thing about p030 that is worth while. Everything else can be done better aftermarket. Brakes can be done too, so pay attention to all the options. Keyless go, massaging seats, power sun shade, and distronic are the big ones.

Read up on the E55 forum, same car, different body style. There's a lot more info on power and maintenance over there.

Take your time, get it right. Get the color and options you want. Start on Autotrader and look at many.

Yes I've been doing some serious research...you shouldn't have told me I can get a additional 100hp out of the CLS55 w/out to much modification. I have associate that is selling his CLS55 with 113k on the clock that he says is well maintained for $13k, I'm gonna look into that but the color is like a Aqua blue...Not sure on that I prefer Black on Black or Silver. I'll keep you posted!

Wow, that's a deal. Put 5k in maintenance, 4k into speed, and 1k to upgrade the head unit and speakers, and you'll be set for a long time.

Pictures? I don't think aqua blue was one of the color choices.

I've seen YouTube videos but no user reviews for the CLS

2007 Mercedes CLS-63
Razey,

Talk me out of my 2007, 81k miles. I'm the second owner. Complete records, Iridium Silver,P02 and 030 options as well as Parktronic and the obligatory electronic trunk closer. Original MSRP of $110,305.00
Great driver, just put in new intake manifold and it runs code-free.
I did what you are doing: Searching for the right one. I spent $300.00 several times at a dealership to have various cars checked out. Well worth the investment if you have multiple cars you are looking at.
Having never driven a 55, I can't give you any feedback there but can say you'll never get tired or bored driving the 63.
PM me if you want to discuss further about mine or what to look out for.
