Who's got the most miles?
I know some of the old MBZ engines can rack up the miles, but I'm curious how the AMG engines are lasting, especially since searching on one of my Porsche boards turns up the tale of someone's C32 croaking after 9k. Has anyone already run up serious miles in their C32 yet? Anyone over 100k?

Not sure how many he currently has but I bet its up there.... whats the new figure Jon?
Also do you keep track of the # of miles that are from track use? Any major failures?

I think your describing IGNACIOs c32 that went boom-boom... i believe i've heard of only 2 on the boards i frequent over the past 3 years.
I think the issues with "most" of todays cars are probably not the motors, but the other "electronic" crap! ---makes the cars too HEAVY too!! LOL

Basically a brand new 2002 C32 failed early on. Without any hassle AMG replaced the entire motor with another out of a crate from Germany. They sent the original back to Germany and analyzed the failure. The owner decided he was uncomfortable with an unmatched car/motor and that possibly the #2 motor might develop the same problem. So he quickly offed his C32 and bought a Porsche. (I think this guy was looking towards a Porsche all along, was never happy with a sedan, so in a way the failure was good news for him). So the guy has a right to talk, but he really has very little experience with the C32.
It is interesting to note exactly what AMG did for the guy (vs. BMW’s E46M3 motor issue cough-cough). There was never any question of over revving/racing etc, etc.
In a hazy way I recall some other failure of a one C32 motor maybe in 2003-04, that was on this board. AFAIK those are the only engine failures ever mentioned on any boards. BTW the base motor under the C32 was one of Ward’s top motors, so you should expect it to last. Also it wouldn’t be used in the SRT-6 unless it was a good design.
The 55 motor has been around forever, so there can be no doubt that it has longevity.

About the rest: I did a search on the Pelican Parts BBS and the only reference to the C32 at all was someone's 2nd-hand tale of a coworker's engine "blowing" while the car was still new. Whose it was, I don't know.
Someone mentioned the 55 AMG engine. I like that engine - I'm a fan of displacement over super/turbo/charging, but the C55 is a bit more than I want to spend right now and isn't as mod-able as the C32, and I don't like the front of the CLK55 (though the 2003+ coupe is, imo, the most beautiful coupe on the planet right now).
